My family and I just ate at Cities this past Sunday for brunch and was extremely pleased! I had the Eggs Benedict, my husband had the Southwestern omelette and my kids each had one of the Belgian waffles....hmmmmm...hmmmm! Everything was delicious and my kids are begging to go back. I highly recommend Cities Grill & Bar and can't wait to go back!
unprofessional service: I have been to Cities three times and will never go back - three strikes you're out! TERRIBLE service. Service staff acts like they want to be anywhere but there, which tells me there is a problem with management. Food is okay, nothing special. I can forgive that if I get decent service!!! Save your money, go to Christopher's New Global Cuisine. Best restaurant in the area.
great food !!: This is a great place to eat. We moved here in Aug 2006 and it was the first restaurant we tried. The food was excellent and we had a great waitress. My only complaint was the receptionist who was very cool and rude . We will return and hope this problem is resolved as we did bring it to the attention of the manager..
Very Disappointed: Had tried this place in 2005 and was impressed. However, I returned with friends from out of town in August of 2006 to find the service and wait staff to be very poorly trained. The hostesses were not very friendly. We had to ask whay we were waiting 5 minutes for a table when there were plenty empty.
We got a chilling " we are cleaning your table now" as a response. The waiter was no better. No smile. The food was not bad. The restrooms were terribly in need of attention.
Just not a very good second impression. I will not be back!!
My Favorite Place to Be: When I moved to Winston-Salem 5 years ago this was one of the first "real" restaurants I got taken to. I fell in love as soon as we got to the parking lot. The fountain out front is a wonderful place to wait when the lines are a little long. I love the ceiling, perfect "starry sky" for a romantic dinner. This is one of those places that is just all around a great place. I feel comfortable going on "dates" all dressed up, or sitting in the bar with my friends in jeans. The murals in the bar area are my favorite part though. Every time I go in and sit in a different booth or another table, I see a face in them that I hadn't noticed before. There's also a huge projection screen that shows various landscapes and skylines. I love it. And we haven't even gotten to the food. The food is wonderful. Spincah and atichoke dip is my husband's favorite appetizer. He'd eat is as an entree if he could. The steaks are always cooked to perfection. The menu is varied so there's something that everyone can enjoy, from the vegetarian to the meat and potatoes man. Service is top-notch. The waitstaff here know when to come by the tables, never too often, but they never leave you waiting either.
Im gushing. It's obvious that I Love Cities.
Beautiful dining.: The first thing that stands out about Cities is the atmosphere. It is absolutely beautiful. No matter where you are seated, you are comfortable and surrounded by great ambiance. Then there is the service. Always pleasant. And the food is great. I personally prefer, and recommend, the Bayside Chicken and Shrimp. It is so good. And for dessert, you can ask to see the tray, but the best isn't on it. Cities Sundae. Ah. Here the angels sing as that giant martini glass is placed in front of you, piled high with chocolate and vanilla icecream, bananas, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, glazed nuts, oreos, chocolate wafer sticks and a cherry on top, too.
I'll stop. Those are just personal favorites. But I seriously recommend Cities. It's a GREAT place to take a date if you're trying to impress! And it's reasonably enough priced that it's a great place to go just because.
Update 8.19.06: They've made some pretty substantial changes. Quite some time ago, they replaced their croutons in their salads with these bland crisps. Not a big change and the salads are good otherwise. However, most recently they've changed their menu. They raised their prices by about 20% and took one side from the meals. So you're getting less food for more money. The quality of the food is still high, for the most part, however the service is not. They've got fewer servers, so each is running more tables than they can, apparently, efficiently handle. Last, they now accept reservations and they've started live music and wine tasting on Wednesdays.
With that said, I change my recommendation from a great place to go just because to a good place to go for a little splurge, if you're on a budget. And I no longer recommend the Sundae. They've changed up the icecream and it's not nearly as good.
Most romantic, business, and casual atmosphere.: The ambience was very attractive for a quiet, romantic, and easy to discuss business or carry on conversation of importance. The service was supberb, and fast. The food was excellent. The only problem was the amount for the money.
Review of Cities Bar & Grill: The presentation and taste of the food is excellent. Not to mention the price. Whenever family visits and we go out to dinner, Cities is always my first choice!
