Unfortunately, it needs great improvement: On two occasions, I have had out of town relatives stay at the Inn. I should have given up after the first relatives were placed in a smoking room next to a loud wedding. I gave the inn a second chance because it's a beautiful inn and I've had splendid times there before. The second incident involved a very unclean room and lousy service. I hope they improve because it once was great and could be again. I think it's managed by recent college grads who view the inn as a stepping stone to bigger hotels. As a result, the staff provides little help. For example, the second batch of relatives went downstairs for their included breakfast, but the room wasn't ready because they "forgot." Instead they were seated in the lobby. I think it demonstrates a lack of responsibility and the lack of apology demonstrates a lack of courtesy. If I wanted my relatives to eat breakfast in the lobby, I would have given them a gift certificate to Holiday Inn. At least there they have non-smoking rooms and breakfast on time.
To me these are big deals because while the inn provides a wonderful location, it has greatly outdated amenities. The bathrooms are tiny, the windows open poorly, if at all: and the walls are thin.
I sincerely believe that with more concern at the top, new managers in between and some dedication from all that will turn the Lord Jeff around. Hopefully this message will be completely irrelevant in a year. In the mean time, please consider these comments as tough love.
This place has a good feel and great location: The building is steeped in history and you can feel it, however, the place battles humidity and has a worn feel, and smell. Our room was very nice, but it's the location you're in the hub of Amherst. We enjoyed the architecture and people, the locals and students.
