This place is GOOD..however...it is not for the weak in the wallet....one word describes it EXPENSIVE!!!!
There's no need to go to Boston, or Chicago for that matter, to get the Chicago-style steakhouse feel and menu that 111 presents and delivers.
The moment you walk inside, I was impressed by the high ceilings, the intimate yet well spaced seating arrangements, and the judicious use of wood paneling. The main rooms were well-lit, and the private dining room felt spacious. The wine racks in the private dining room lent an air of class to the presentation.
The appetizers were varied and delicious. The drink menu is extensive.
They also do a lot of specialty dishes, including stuffed fillets with many different sauces. An intriguing one is a Wagyu flatiron cut. I personally like my steaks unadorned. I ordered a 14 oz NY sirloin medium, and it was tender and juicy. Impressive is the fact that the seasonings did not detract from the purity of the meat, and I didn't require a bottle of steak sauce on the side to enjoy it.
The portions, needless to say, are very generous, from the main course to the sides. Hearty mashed potatoes, comfort food-styled mac and cheese, and steamed broccoli (firm, cooked without becoming mushy)with Hollandaise on the side played solid supporting roles.
The desserts varied from artsy to solid. The white chocolate mousse was playful in its edible chocolate shell. The creme brulee was the sweet, creamy concoction you expect. And while the cheesecake topped with strawberries and sauce was more New York style in fluffiness than the firmness I've come to expect from Chicago cheesecakes, I'm not about to complain about its balance of cheese against sweet.
Because the tab is on the high end, this place is definitely a special occasion destination. However, it's one destination worth going over repeatedly.
Oh my God, my wife and I hadn't eaten there in years, we do frequent the bar and usuallly head out from there. We had received a gift card and went there on Saturday night. Service was outstanding ***** I had the Prime Rib and my wife had the Kobe beef. ********* We have decided that once a week the 111 will be our destination. Absolutly Outstanding
