A wonderful preschool!
My 3 year old daughter just started there this year, and she loves it. The class is small -- this year there are 3 children, last year there were 6 -- so the children have tons of individual attention. The intimate atmosphere is perfect for children in this age group.
The teacher is wonderful -- she's young, enthusiastic and great with children.
My husband and I spent more than an hour talking with the teacher at the open house last year, and we were very impressed with the quality of materials she uses-- in reading, math, science, geography. Ms. Gangi is very creative.
Our older daughter went to a Montessori preschool. In general, I'm a fan of Montessori methodology for pre-K. But I believe that a more traditional preschool can achieve the quality of a Montessori education, with the right materials and teacher. This school is such an example.
Wayland's preschool, like Montessori schools, is academic. But it's not at all high pressure -- Ms. Gangi keeps the learning fun and varied. My daughter enjoys school -- and in the one month she's been there, she's made noticeable progress in math and reading.
The children in preschool also have classes in Spanish, music and art.
This fantastic little preschool program is a bargain. For full-day (from 8:15 to 3:00 p.m.) it's $8,000 a year. Still an arm and a leg -- but a bargain in comparison to some others. (Summit Montessori is now $17,000 for full day; Pincushion Hill Montessori is $12,750; Happy Hollow is roughly $10,000.)
I highly recommend this preschool!
