We had heard about the remake of Toscano and were anxious to try the place. Incredible. The new decor combining antique wood, stone and remarkable lighting made us feel we were in Tuscany--not Beacon Hill.Being red wine lovers we had two bottles--one less expensive than the other--both Italian and both great values. So we went for it all. Appetizers of prociutto, pasta fagioli soup and a tri-colore salad. All on point. Fresh,
generous and as good as it gets. We had two pastas--gnocchi and penne--a white sauce and a red. They were piping hot and very original. Then we had "chicken under a brick" and a fresh fish grilled perfectly. Wow! Wow!
The service was gracious and timely--but not overbearing. We had no room for dessert--but we will next time!
We may never eat in another Italian restaurant.
Good food. Bad service.: First, the food is obviously fresh and the place is clean. This is a solid Tuscan style restaurant. This is not the place to get a creative meal or fantastic presentation.
The problem lies in the service. Despite having reservations, we were largely ignored by the staff. The wine recommended by the waiter was obviously a successful attempt to direct us to an overpriced bottle of ordinary wine. As soon as we finished, the service suddenly was very fast as the maitre 'd hovered around our table staring at us, trying to pick up the money as soon as possible. I don't like to feel like a vagrant when I've waited 40 minutes for my food and just received the check.
improve service: service is very slow
people do not like to wait so long to eat their meal
