Via Matta, despite all its glitz & glam, is an average restaurant. The food there is ok but the staff needs to learn how to listen. When I first arrived, they took my coat and gave me a ticket. I sat down, placed my order. I asked the waitress to have balsamic vinegar on my salad. My salad come out with dressing on it. When the waitress stated that she would bring out my dressing, I said it had dressing on it. When I brought it up again, she said she would bring out the dressing. Hello, are you deaf? After dinner, she asked if I wanted dessert. When I said no, I got major attitude. Then, to top it off, they couldn't find my coat. I would never go back there again.
Best Italian Restaurant in Boston: The food at Via Matta is just terrific. My favorites are the Pappa al Pomodoro, which is a warm tomato soup, and the simple garlic and olive oil with tomato pasta. The all-Italian wine list is a refreshing change, and even the house wine by the glass is always surprisingly good.
