A very average sandwich. Try All-Star in Cambridge's Inman Square.
Parish Cafe, not Cafa: I went last month for the first time in several years. I am glad I went! It was a Saturday night and we went early so we could make it to the Shakespeare on the Common. By 5:30 there was a 20 or so minute wait for a table outside! We had to show ID at the door even though we were there for dinner and had no intentions of ordering alcohol. I wonder what they do with children. They didn't stamp our hands so how could the wait staff then know who was legal and who wasn't? Seemed silly to me. We chose to sit inside and the noise level was louder than I remembered. The only bad things I have to say!
To start, we shared the Cobbed Corn Tapas ("Two grilled ears of corn rubbed with a garlic mayonnaise and topped with Ricotta Salata, fresh lime slices and Korean pepper flakes") - MMM Good. Especially good to get it in the middle of fresh corn season.
My friend had the Egg Sandwich Lyonnaise (Two eggs fried over-easy, served on toasted white bread with Applewood smoked bacon, sliced vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced red onions and Frisee. Topped with a dijon-mustard aioli and served with homemade potato salad.) which she enjoyed very much.
I can't remember the name of what I had and it is no longer on the menu so I can't find it but it was an Asian style sandwich with red cabbage and garlic. MMM.
Both sandwiches were stuffed. And even though I wanted to try the white chocolate pudding dessert, I had no room what so ever - I was stuffed!
Beantown's best sandwich: What's not to love about a place that brings Boston's best chefs together to create their own sandwiches? Parish is definitely one of our favorite places to grab a sandwich. You won't find sandwiches like these anywhere else in Boston. The local chefs go out of their way to design truly unique sandwiches. Although it is tempting to "play favorites" every time we go, it is also fun to explore the menu and try something new. And the best part is, you can't go wrong, it's all great. Other reasons to go? There is outdoor seating in the summer time, which is always a great find in Boston, they have an excellent selection of beers on draft and, we discovered recently, they serve pitchers (which is hard to find in Boston these days)! Also, its a great place to bring your veggie friends - they have several vegetarian selections on their menu. The downside is that Parish is small and usually crowded, so you have to be patient to get a seat. But, we promise, the wait is worth it.
