| About: | Dimly lit with small booths and a laid-back wait staff, this quaint South End bar and eatery can get crowded quickly. It may not look like much from the outside, but it is the inside that counts. All types come here looking for an inexpensive drink or supper. Quality pizzas and daily specials are satisfying and made promptly. The split pea soup, vegetable pie and herb-roasted pork loin are quite good as well. This is the perfect place to escape the pomp and prices of downtown. |

Not for big parties: I love the Delux,they have the best grilled cheese,great tunes are always playing,and the decor is brilliant.However besides it's small size I recommend going with a party no larger than four people that can fit at one table.Recently we celebrated three co-workers leaving at the Delux.Now the place was packed,there was only one waitress,and we had two tables which they graciously allowed us to put together into one big table.As the evening wore on our waitress was becoming visibly upset,and would slam our food down on the table,and not bring any cutlery or napkins.Finally she snapped and yelled at us and told us that she had 9 other tables and everytime she walks by one of us asks for something,and we need to go to the bar and stop harrassing her.We were polite and courteous with her the whole night The only reason I didn't go to the bar is because I have been chastised by some bartenders for going to the bar when we have a waitress.Perhaps we crossed a line I really don't know,but my recommendations are as follows for this young lady.
One-when you take an order for a table take it for the whole table and not just a section.I was at one end,and I would see her take an order for two or three people and then disappear.Well of course other people are going to order when she walks by.
Two-if you are feeling stressed or you thnk you're being taken advantage of rather than go ballistic here's a better way to handle it.Hi I'm sorry but I'm super busy, would it be ok if I asked you to go up to the bar and order your drinks and any food you may need directly from the bartender.That would have been a professional way to handle the situation.Yes I would like to hang out with my friends when I'm working but unfortunately that's not always an option sometimes we have to do our jobs no matter how unpleasantthey may be.
So the Delux is an amazing place to eat,and a cool place to hang,but I would recommend going on an off night with no more than four people total.And you should probably sit at the bar if you can. -

Funky dive bar: The decor is fun! The food is good! The drinks are good too! Also, it is not too expensive!
