About:Restaurateurs Mary-Catherine Deibel and Deborah Hughes opened UpStairs on the Square in 2002, building on their 20 year success at UpStairs at the Pudding. They have created a "casual haute cuisine" menu in the Monday Club Bar , where guests can enjoy Deborah's award-winning design, two fireplaces and sweeping views of the Square all day from 11:00 to midnight. The UpStairs Soiree Dining Room , reminiscent of a glowing and colorful jewel-box-like supper club, is lit with the flicker of working fireplaces at each end of the room. This main dining room is clearly an heir to the celebratory dining room at Upstairs at the Pudding and serves a Executive Chef Steve Brand's fine dining menu that is both artisanal and sexy-with seasonal and local ingredients beautifully prepared and served. Due to the more limited capacity of the Soiree Room, you must call or email the restaurant after you place a reservation to get a table there: info@upstairsonthesquare.com.

we were walking on a warm day along the charles and decided to stop here on a whim because they had nice outdoor tables. we were terribly underdressed, but the staff greeted us like we were old friends. the martinis were the best refreshment after a parching walk. when the evening turned suddenly cool, they were gracious when we requested an indoor table. upstairs is a whimsical delight of color and decor (so far from the old grendall's days). in fact the service was so gracious we both vowed we would come back soon, appropriatley attired of course. a classy place that is well worth the cost, it's an evening out that is memorable. go and enjoy.

The BEST Restaurant in Boston: I've been to most of the best restaurants in town, but Upstairs on the Square always comes back as one of my favorites. They incorporate fresh, local ingredients in the most imaginative ways and the food is always done to perfection - never overcooked, undercooked, soggy, cold, etc. Their attention to detail in the food is unparalleled in a lot of the other supposedly great restaurants in Boston - those places seem more concerned with charging you a great deal for a meal they forgot to really put their heart into. At Upstairs on the Square, each bite is magical and unforgettable and worth every penny. No wonder it's a regular haunt for those in the know!

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE: After contacting this hall/restaurant we were contacted by Mary-Catherine Deibel who's e-mail, we felt, was condesending and showed poor customer service skills in asking us to contact yet another person to aquire service rather than doing the leg work herself so the person could contact us. This is quickly becoming a standard that we will not tolerate and ask others not to also so that a message is sent to business that this is unacceptable. They have lost us as Catering Clients and perspective patrons.
