Magnolia's Southern Cuisine

Company Information: The sights, sounds and smells from the kitchen reveals the style of cuisine offered here at Magnolia's Southern Cuisine. But a quick look at the mannerisms of many patrons will also give it away. This place is deeply Southern in both taste and feel. Jumbalaya and hush puppies are two of the best dishes served. This place makes them seem classic. The herb-crusted pork loin with mashed potatoes and rendered collard greens is also quite good. Plus the restaurant also serves beer and wine.

   A Pleasant Surprise: Magnolias was a fun, surprising experience. One thing is for certain...they know how to make a first impression. Soon after you sit down, they serve you an absolutely delicious fresh, warm bowl of breads...a wonderful assortment that really makes you look forward to the main course. The banana bread and some of the sweet breads seemed a little too heavy at the beginning of a meal, but they were such a breath of fresh air when compared to the boring, dry bread and butter that so many places serve that I can easily overlook that fact. They have excellent crab cakes and seafood, in general, and I absolutely loved the "Glorified BBQ Chicken Dinner." I wish we could have had dessert. So, now that we know the food is good, the question is, is the price fair? Yeah, it's fair. It's not a steal, but it's fair. The only area where I knock Magnolias is on service/ambiance. I just don't think it presents a unified consistent identity. The staff was far too serious for a place that looked quite fun and colorful. Essentially, I'd like to see the place be as fun as the food. Nonetheless, give it a try and see for yourself. You will enjoy it.
