I don't tend to write reviews, but I saw such a terrible review here that I had to write my own.
Dr. Maywald is an excellent chiropractor. He certainly has his own ideas about psychology/spirituality, and he's a free flow of information, but as a chiropractor he's excellent. He has never tried to sell me anything. In fact, he gave me some vitamin E ointment for free.
I had my spine adjusted, and we did the electrical stimulation therapy on my ailing arms. The difference in how I felt was immediate. I am on the road to recovery.
Far from trying to maximize his profits, Dr. Maywald seems to want to minimize the number of visits it takes to help his patients, as a source of pride.
He is a little eccentric, and like I said before he has a LOT to say, but he genuinely cares about his patients and is an excellent practitioner.
I wasn't sure what to think of this practitioner at first, but I realize that I should have let my intuition be my guide. I agree that he does to a fairly thorough assessment, but he does not synthesize that data well at all. As a matter of fact, he purported that I had "Piriformis Syndrome" (seems to be analogous to the dermatologist who umbrellas any disorder he/she can't diagnose, as dermatitis). My pain was agonizing, and one would think that he would have suggested after a few sessions of little improvement, that I should seek medical care. Nope.. He opted to implement his electrical stimulus treatment (which of course is the one treatment that insurance doesn't cover.. clever man). No surprise that he didn't do much manipulation, as he probably realized that the real cause was more serious. It turned out to be a ruptured disc, with disc tears at multiple levels. I ended up having to pay for the electrical stimulus, and he simply stated "well, I don't know what insurance plans cover and what they do not." That is B.S. because you'll be hard pressed to find ANY insurance co. that covers it.
I played phone tag for over a month to just get his billing dept to send me a copy of a bill, which I still haven't received..
During visits, be prepared that he will answer his phone at any point. He doesn't respect your appointment time as being uninterrupted. He talks incessantly, to the point of appearing manic. He has a plethora of pills, shoes, pillows etc. for sale in the front of his "office." The focus is more on him trying to delve into your psyche, find your insecurities, then try to sell you more stuff.. He is not normal. The two good reviews he got here must be self-written.
Enter at your own risk. The shabby, abandoned appearance of this office says a lot too about his business. It's NOT GOOD.... It's no wonder that he has about five other adjunct, quasi careers going on. If this man stays in business another year, I'll be shocked.
Dr. Maywald takes a holistic view of your presenting problem and our session included a discussion of the emotional factors behind my physical issues. He is insightful, humorous, and compassionate. Although we do not agree on dietary regimens, I too received a thorough examination and adjustment, and was extremely impressed with the level of true caring and genuine interest.( I saw him at the Boston Benevolent Chiropractic Center, where he volunteers his time once a month. Usually the practitioners there will only spend about 15 minutes with each person; Dr. Maywald requires an appointment there before you come in, since he spends at least an hour with you. And it's FREE.) Highly recommended. Thanks Doc!
