I was disappionted, I went their on high expectations. I thought the menu was very limited and uninventive.
When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty and were seated in the middle of the dining room and the staff kept on bumping into my wifes seat because it was a shortcut for the staff to get around. We were greated by our waitress who seemed to be in a rush to get our order, with no suggestions or upselling at all. We tried the Pomegrate Martini ($11) which they ruined by adding way to much juice to it you could not even taste the Parma Vodka. My with ordered the porkchop porterhouse entree with was ok but a little to carmelized for her liking. I started had the pineapple salad with would have been great if they cut down on the greens and added more goat chz and if they did not mince the pancetta into tiny bits. My main course was Pasta with roasted red peppers & fontaina cream sauce with spicy crusted shrimp. Another disappoinment very bland, and overly minced roasted red peppers more like a puree. The shrimp where tender but bland no spice or heat, nothing!
For dessert we had homemade peanut butter cup cheese cake, the restaurant is at least consistent very bland again it tasted like plain cheeese cake.
Service, Food and atmosphere. Everything was just barely average. On more thing, I thought is was kind of odd / tacky that the hostess/manager was running around with a cordles phone attached to her hip; and when it rang she would stop in the middle of the dining room and start talking on it. I was ten feet away from her and could her the conversation as clear as if she was talking to me.
I don't know how people are raving over this place I spent $70 on diner for the two of us & left with no desire to return. May be it was just a bad experience or maybe that is why the place was just about empty when we arrived and left?
My favorite standby, BoCa has never disappointed in many years. The food is fabulous, the chef keeps the menu exciting with new flavors and specials, the service is friendly and the prices are great for the taste, quality and portion sizes (especially compared to other South Shore restaurants that define themselves as upscale). Best of all, you can get meals for takeout, just call ahead. I heard they have new healthy packaged meals prepared onsite, which sounds like a great idea for taking to work or to bring home after a long day. Overall, the food is consistently exceptional and I find the restaurant one of the most comfortable places to visit on the South Shore (you are not rushed out the door, you can relax and enjoy great food and company)
