The well-read employees help you find the books you want, offer excellent staff picks, and never pressure those who just want to browse the shelves for hours. User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe Coolest Little Indie Bookstore in Brookline: There is no better, more spirited indie bookstore than Brookline Booksmith, indeed part of a very dying breed of stores where on top, they sell all the new stuff, but underneath, they sell all the used stuff. The used section is kind of like looking for buried treasure because you never know what you're going to find. Plus, they have Videosmith, which beats Blockbuster and Netflix any day since they have stuff you can't find anywhere else. A truly fine establishment that's open later than your normal bookstore. The only downer is a lousy Barnes & Noble moved right down the street. Do yourself a favor and forget their Starbucks-adoring, journal section-sporting, overpriced DVD selling behemoth and go to a real bookstore like Booksmith. By far the only bookstore you can really enjoy for it's down and dirty, indie attitude, complete with knowledgable staff that leave you be, instead of bugging you if you need help.
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is the best bookstore on earth!!: I lived in Boston for 4 years. I moved away about 9 months ago and they only thing I miss (besides my friends) is Brookline Booksmith. Their books are of amazing quality. You can get some super deals on the tables near the front but also check out other tables in the store where they display some of their favorites - they will likely soon be your favorites too!

Best Bookstore: This bookstore is a real gem. So much more character than the big chains. It's a great place to spend some time browsing. They always have great signing and reading events on their calendar.
