About:Matt Murphy's Pub has a unique twist, a large display of pull-on galoshes. Maybe that's to let you know you have found a warm place to enjoy robust ales and hearty food. There is Guinness Stout on tap among the beer offerings and the food is a draw here as well. The fish and chips too are awesome. The Shepherd's Pie and Beef Stew are quite good and you can't go wrong with the Smoked Salmon and Trout Platter.

After eating a fantastic meal at a nearby restaurant, some friends and I wanted to grab a few beers to hang out so the closest place was matt Murphy's so we went in there. My friends haven't been here in a while and were pretty disappointed when we first stepped in. There were no bar stools and for a place named Matt Murhpy's, to have no Guinness, well, was very unexpected. And not a good unexpected. It seemed a little pretentious as there was a two line description of what a "gin and tonic" on their "cocktails" list was. And the most disgusting was that you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom which smelled horribly even for a bar bathroom, which is horrifying for being in the kitchen. We told the guy who worked there that we were only going to have some drinks, and he says well the tables are for eating patrons only. Ok, fine. There was already another guy just hanging out at the bar, so we got a round and were standing at the bar when the same guy who works there comes over and goes, "Well, you can actually sit at that corner table if you want. But if anybody comes in here to eat, you'll have to get up." Which we thought was fair. After about 10 minutes or so, we do have to get up as a group of hungry people arrive, which is fine, no problem. So we decide this place is not for us because it's so tiny and not what we expected so we leave and stand outside for a few mintues to come up with a new game plan and the same guy who offered us the table comes out and in a condescending accusatory tone asks us if we paid our tab. First of all, we already paid the bartender when we actually ordered our round and left him a nice tip. Second of all, it was not that crowded that they couldn't keep a handle on who paid when they actually bought drinks at the bar (which was basically only us at that time). And lastly, if we didn't pay, why would we stand around outside the establishment waiting to get caught? We were HIGHLY insulted at his accusation and for a multitude of reasons listed here, we are NEVER going back there again.

Excellent place for a pint or meal: Love this place -- not to be missed. It used to be a bit more rugged (beat up tables, etc.), but not all the former charm has been lost with the recent renovations. The beer is great, the food is very good, and the atmosphere is fantastic -- friendly waiters and live music. Don't be surprised to see an impromptu trio in the window booth and be ready to share your table with other patrons.

Best Live Music: Matt Murphy's is the place for live music. Tuesday nights are a guarenteed for a great show. This cozy bar is definately a dimond in the rough.
