This was the very best meal I have ever had in Boston. Excellent food and service. I would highly recommend!!
Food great after 1 hr. 15 minute wait: The food is excellent but a service issue and resolution was totally unacceptable. We arrived on 7/16 at 6:10 on a Sunday night. The restaurant was less than 1/2 full. Our order was not taken until almost 6:40 and our main course was served at 7:25. When the food was served, my wife's sushi was initially placed on another table by the overworked waitress by mistake for about a couple of minutes before this was rectified. She insisted the person did not touch it but we were uncomfortable anyway especially when we noticed the gentlemen coughing whom initially received the sushi order. Later we noticed, people who arrived 40 minutes after us, were served only 10 minutes after us. We mentioned this issue at the front desk while leaving, it was explained that there was a large private party in the other room and many takeout orders had backed up the kitchen If there was a kitchen or service problem, we should have been informed. A complimentary appetizer or drink while we were waiting (with only a glass of water in front of us) should have been offered earlier which would have made things a little better. I believe that this was not intentional rudeness, but any quality restaurant has to handle these events better or at least offer an unhappy customer a check adjustment. (This complaint in targeted at the manager and not the waitress.)
Fabulous Asian Cuisine at Dabin in Lexington, MA!: I visited Dabin in Lexington, Massachusetts with my family last week and had the most wonderful Japanese-Korean smorgasboard ever. We were treated to at least 8 different Japanese and Korean appetizers and 6 different very high-quality sushis, including the best salmon, mackerel and tunas ever. The salmon just melted in my mouth! The kimchee was delectable. The lobster entree was presented beautifully and was the most wonderful-tasting we have ever had. I did not know that you could do this with lobsters; they were segmented, deep-fried in the shell and served with a very special, delicately seasoned sauce. The lobsters appeared to be dancing together, face-to-face on the plate. We also enjoyed fried tempura-style shrimp, eggplant and sesame leaves; fried dumplings, a lovely saki that perfectly complimented everything on the table; and for dessert we enjoyed the owner's freshly-picked cherries and raspberries soaked in vodka after our green tea. I am sure that I have forgotten to mention something about this huge and splendid meal, and I apologize for leaving out all of the details. There was so much and it was just fabulous; I found everything delightful. The food and the atmospehere was simply lovely. And the service was unbelievably good. When you visit Lexington, Masssachusetts, you must visit Dabin and pay your compliments to their very shy and gifted chef, his gracious wife and their professional staff. You can sit in the private rooms, screened off or opened up, low to the floor on cushions, or sit at less traditional tables or booths, depending on your preferences. I have tried both and enjoyed the atmosphere equally, each visit. I look forward to paying them a visit next year if I am in the area.
