| About: | Blue-Ribbon BBQ is a Southern-style barbecue joint mainly known as a takeout spot, although there are 12 seats available inside. The decor is unique, you can see the cook in action over a glass wall and license plates from southern barbecue states on display. The food is the biggest draw here, including North Carolina pulled pork (complete with coleslaw and vinegar), Texas sliced beef brisket, red hot smoked sausage and Memphis dry-rubbed barbecued ribs. Rice and beans, collard greens and mashed potatoes are among the side dishes. This eatery does not serve alcohol. |

This food here is incredible. Whenever I go to Boston, I pick up dinners for the family and I can barely keep my hands off the food during the return 100 mile trip back to Western Massachusetts.
A little bit of BBQ heaven! Who knew you could get top notch, down-home BBQ in Boston? Actually, it is in the suburb of Newton - but no-one has mentioned that they also opened on in nearby Arlington also and it's just as good! Tangy sauces, melt-in-your mouth meat, great sides(pour on the mashed potates!), and oh, dear Lord, don't forget the desserts - cobbler of the day with fresh whip cream or sweet potato pie or, well, you get the idea. Great prices, generous servings of delicious food that's all about getting down and dirty with lots of napkins. This is a great spot to pick up lunch or dinner, and lots of businesses throughout Boston and Cambridge order company lunches from them - they cater, or at least provide heaping multi-meal servings of their succluent BBQ meats with a selection of their sauces. I wish they would open one in Worcester, MA - hint, hint! We need some good BBQ out here!
I've gone there maybe 20 times. it's pretty good. I don't quite get the people who just gush about the place. I don't think it's THAT good. I don't like their style of ribs. to me they just dont have any flavor. The pulled pork is good. the burnt ends are my favorite, with the sausage a close #2. the sausage is incredible with the yellow sauce. the pies are pretty good too. I don't like the kale soup with the mashed potatoes dolloped into it, I could never quite get the idea of that. You can order the meats in 3 ways: on a sandwich, in bulk, or in a platter. I tried all 3, and to me it seemed like I got just as much meat in the bulk as in the platter, and the platter cost less and gives you 2 sides wiht it. I must be missing something there, because that makes no sense. after that I never ordered Bulk again. ordering by the Plate is the best deal. you get 2 sides, and a LOT of meat, enough to make about 4 sandwiches on regular white bread which I use. so it's a meal for 2 people for only $10 or so. and i get a lot of the mild BBQ sauce - and i like to dump it on heavy. the sides - again I'm not a fan of some of the sides. I don't like collard greens. I don't like baked beans in general. their mashed potatoes is good, but not "to die for" like someone else said.
all in all, like I said, you hook up 2 hungry people with a plate of burnt ends with 2 of your favorite sides for only $10, how can you go wrong. you can spend almost as much feeding 2 people at mcdonald's for goodness sake.
