Great food for great price.: First time to Martha's Vineyard so I had to wonder around quite a bit before settling for a restaurant. Out of all the places in the "Main St" area this was the only one that didn't have really high prices. And the tour guide kept saying that Bill Clinton eats here when he is on vacation in the area, not that it matters to me. Plus the place is air-conditioned and indoors, which is a big positive when the temperature is in the 90s.
I was glad we went here cause the food was great. I had the obligatory "New England Clam Chowder" and "Lobster Roll." This was the third bowl of chowder that I had during the weekend, it ranks second: while it was good it was not quite as good as the one I had at the Gay Head Lighthouse (supposedly rated as best by people on the island). The clams chunks weren't big enough and it didn't have enough celery. The lobster roll which was the second one I had during the weekend was exceptionally, it was composed of big chunks of lobster not just lobster shreds and was not overwhelmed by mayonnaise. The price $15 was comparable to other places but there was a lot more lobster. My mother had the fried fish sandwich which was excellent also. The fish was fresh and not of the frozen bread variety and placed upon a bed of coleslaw. From what I saw of other people's meal, all of the portions are of the local diner sort, more than filling. Since I was so full, I did not have a chance to sample their pie which looked very good.
The waitresses were a mixture of international students and locals and were pleasant and attentive. The restaurant is very clean and is of the faux retro sort. Definitely will go here again if I am ever back in Martha's Vineyard.
