I have to say I visited this season on a rainy day that they were jam packed with a line out the door. The wait staff was efficient and friendly. I had lobster salad salad plate and it was very generous portion of the most delicate lobster salad over a nice sized green salad with some salad veggies. I also had their chowder which is not the thick white chowder but the old fashioned soupy chowder it was filled with clams and delicious. The prices are usually in the teens for an entree and the place was very clean including the bathroom. I am a very tough customer if you look at my other reviews i do give one star at times when I'm truly disappointed this place does a good job in an area that's got allot of tourist traps with awful food and overpriced fare. The ONLY thing I can say negative is they could use some more tables to fit their adoring fans in on rainy summer days :) THIS IS A CAPE COD DONT MISS its filled ceiling with all kinds of signs and license plates gives you something to talk about and look at. Its enjoyable in every way.

not what it used to be: The Land-Ho is an Orleans institution. In the 35 years I have visted and lived on Cape Cod I can truly say that until recently this was THE BEST place to have lunch or a casual dinner in the Mid-Cape area. I would have rated this establishment very highly in the not-so-distant past. However, BECAUSE it has become an institution it has become a mere shadow of its former self.
Back in the day, the clam chowder couldn't be beaten, though fans of the now-closed Mildred's might dispute this. The specials were fresh, top-of-the line, products (mostly local)and were served quick and hot from the busy kitchen. The decor was funky without being kitschy and mainly consisted of local art, some interesting vanity licence plates, a few small hanging signs advertising sport fishing services, and a blackboard with a huge number of available daily specials.
The last three visits by my family and I during the summer and early fall of 2006 were experiences unlike any I have had in close to 30 years of dining at The 'Ho. The place was packed each time (as befits an "institution"), but the service was incredibly inefficient. Our waitpersons took more than 30 minutes to even take a beverage order, our food orders arrived in staggered succession (and were lukewarm at best) and the clamchowder had the consistency of library paste. And the local art is being overwhelmed by the now hundreds of advertising signs dangling from the ceiling - a veritable Kitsch Explosion.
Maybe what the Orleans location USED to be is now residing at the Land-Ho branch in Costa Rica. In any event, Thomas Hardy was right - you can't go home again. In the case of the Land-Ho in Orleans, we won't even visit.
