| About: | You will find this restaurant tucked away behind Commercial Street, down a clamshell alleyway and through a portal in a trellis that opens into a patio and garden. Inside is a very cozy, wine cellar with low ceilings, complete with hanging Chianti wicker basket bottles. This is the main fireside dining area for this sumptuous, legendary Provincetown eating experience. Upstairs, the Tuscany Room is decorated with paintings for sale, and an award-winning bartender offers you all manner of drinks. The food, mostly Northern Italian, is superb. |

My partner and I were in town for the weekend and thought of trying out a new restaurant. Well, Ciro and Sal's was a BIG MISTAKE! The staff were unfriendly, never came by to ask how the meal was and I was given a beer in a glass that smelled of "cellar". As far as the food goes, it was terrible for what they charge for it. We will never waste our time there again.
I agree with the other reviewers that the staff is not very friendly. We had a reservation and upon arrival was given a tiny table in the rear that wobbled and was next to some air shaft that blew cold air forcefully. I also heard another table complaining about the seating. Anyway, I asked to be moved to another table, and even though there were many empty tables, they gave me a hard time about it. I politely said " No, thanks. " and left. There are too many other good restaurants in town to be bothered with snooty help.
We cancelled reservations at another local Italian restaurant to go to Ciro and Sals on a recommendation instead. BIG MISTAKE! Met by an abrupt waitress, I asked about the brushetta of the day to be told it was a roasted eggplant that sounded delicious. I ordered that and my dining partner ordered the mozzarella and tomato salad only to be told "no mozzarella". This shold have been my first clue for an italian restaurant to run out of mozzarella. The brushetta came and my first bite introducted me to ground veal! Having not eaten any meat but seafood and chicken in 30 plus years, my reaction was not a good one. When I questioned the waitress, she was indifferent, offered no replacement appetizer and proceeded to charge for the uneaten brushetta. The tip reflected this fact. The main course was fair but ruined by disqust. We left never to return and voiced our experience with both locals and tourists.
