We love Captain's Place!! We are from NJ and everytime we're in New Bedford visiting family members, we always stop @ Captain's Place. The food is excellent. They have the best lobster! The people are so friendly, the staff is wonderful, the place is cozy/casual. This place always has a crowd.
It's definetley a place to stop when you're in town.

We tried Captains Place last night and I am really sorry to say, we were not impressed. Service was slow, our fish and chips was cooked with an English batter (beer batter) and was extremely greasy. The fish was overcooked and "zingy" tasting. It almost seemed as if it were going bad. My son had the kids steak dinner ordered medium rare and when it came out, it was well done and very tough. We did like the hand cut french fries though. This was the second time we tried this restaurant because I always like to give restaurants two chances just in case they were having a bad night. The first time our scallops had that "zingy" taste also and my husband got sick. This second time was not much better. Sorry

What a great Seafood and Portugese restaurant. I live in Quincy Mass, and will travel to Acushnet to eat at Captains Place. Informal, pleasant place with excellent food. The Paella is to die for. I've eaten Paella in a lot of places, no one gives you such fresh seafood and half a lobster in it. The calamari is delicious and so is the Bacalau with potatoes. Take the family, the kids will love the aquarium and the food.
