The theater has a longstanding history of hosting premier live performances with the notable one being of the opening of Moby Dick in 1956. The theater had undergone a major makeover by the city council in 1982 and since then it has been a vibrant hub with diverse performances from artists and groups like New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble and Hal Holbrook every year from September to May. Besides, the theater also serves as a perfect platform for students in various performing arts like dance, theater and music.
