Went there Christmas Eve 2007 with my wife and daughter. You should save this place for special occasions, because it is fairly high priced, but it is worth every penny. One of the nicest places I have ever dined at.
Normally I am a pretty fast eater, but on this occasion I took my time enjoying the combination duck liver pate, followed by Filet de Boeuf with a Gorgonzola Sauce, and great deserts including Soufflés. Everything was first rate.
I am going to have to develop a special occasion soon, as I am anxious to return.
The Best French Food in Newport: I have to be one of the most spoiled, picky eaters that I know. I have a very refined palate, and I must say that everything at Bouchards was amazing. The atmosphere is cozy and elegant, waiters in tuxedos, crystal everywhere.
The service is exquisite and there are daily specials. I went there with my husband on my birthday. We started of with a glass of champagne of course, perrier jouet, I think. I started with escargot in a creamy lemon, garlic, cream sauce with parsely, which was nestled in this deep flaky pastry with a lid, I believe this dish had a chive berre blanc. This dish was so excellant, perfect balance of flavor as well as beautiful to look at. My husband had a cold smokked scallop appatizer which was in a horseradish cheddar sauce with a balsamic rediction and pea shoots. This dish was so surprising on the tounge in a very pleasant way. The scallops were cooked perfectly and everything was seasoned to perfection.
These were only our starters, you can only imagine how exquisite our meals were.
I highly recomend Bouchard's for anyone looking for a romantic night out, or for a dinner to impress the culinery skeptical. Dress nice.
