Anyone who is to go to any cake store should know that it is impossible to please everyone. I have seen many cakes go out of Dyane's Sweet Tooth, as I usually do my shopping on days they are making their cakes. They are beautiful and I have hard many brides that loved their cake. No matter where you are going for anything with a wedding, there are always Bride-zillas and people who will just not be pleased.
Dyane's Sweet Tooth is an incredibly reputibale place and is probably the most reasonably priced bakery around.
Also, they have been voted #1 for Wedding cakes two years in a row so far. And being farmilar with this place, I'm sure tht will continue. Would you call it "a risk" to have your cake done somewhere that reputable?
I would say not.
Go into Dyane's Sweet Tooth yourself to experince it and meet with the owners. I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say they are some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Bad experience: My daughter and I ordered a cake from Dyane's Sweet Tooth for my daughter's wedding. We went in two times to go over the specifications of the cake. My daughter wanted roses on the cake to match the colors of the wedding party (burgundy and pink). She left color swatches of the bridesmaids' gowns and the flower girl's gown. The gentleman who waited on us both times (I believe he is the owner) said that it is standard to mix in ivory roses with the colored roses so that colored roses would not be overpowering. He also said that some of the ivory roses would be tipped in the burgundy and pink. My daughter said that that she would like that. To our amazement and disappointment There were not any burgundy or pink roses on the cake. There were only ivory roses and ivory roses tipped in burgundy and pink.
Since my daughter would be on her honeymoon for the next week, she asked me to call Dyane's Sweet Tooth and tell them that they made a mistake and ask for a partial refund. I called and spoke to the gentleman that had waited on us both times and told him about the mistake. He put Dyane on the phone. She is the one who decorated the cake. I told her about the mistake and told her that my daughter would like a partial refund. She was extremely rude to me. She told me that it was a beautiful cake and that she would not give any refund. She said that she made the cake according to the notes that were written. She said the notes were not clear that there were to be any solid burgundy or solid pind roses. She also went as far as to say that we should have come over to her to tell her specifically what we wanted. Neither my daughter or I felt that we should have gone over to the counter where Dyane decorates cakes to tell her specifically what we wanted. We had a meeting two times with the gentleman. He took notes. There was no reason to believe that we needed to speak to Dyane as well. She said that the notes said, "burgundy-muted pink-ivory roses". It is clear to me. If it was not clear to her, that is the fault of the gentleman who wrote the notes. She also said that they don't do solid roses in dark colors. This is not true. If you look at the flowers on the cakes on their web site as well as in their book of cakes they have made, you will see that they do many flowers in solid colors, even dark colors. As a matter of fact, the Camelot cake on the web site has dark flowers that are almost the exact color of one of the color swatches my daughter left with them, and she even said that she would like that color pink on the cake.
We all make mistakes. However, this business is not admitting their mistake. Furthermore, they were very rude to me and made it sound like it was our fault.
If you choose to take the risk of having a cake made at Dyane's Sweet Tooth, be sure to look at the wording of the notes and be sure that it is worded exactly the way you want it. In addition, go to the counter and talk to Dyane herself. Don't just rely on the notes that the gentleman writes down.
I will admit the cake was beautiful and delicious. But when you order a cake for your wedding that is almost $600 (or any event at any price) you expect it to be made according to your request. Furthermore, you don't expect to be treated rudely when you call the business to tell them about the mistake.
