I go to Lodge when I want steak. Their steaks are reasonably priced and usually cooked perfectly. Their salad bar is a great attraction. Plenty of choices. I always leave there stuffed to the gills. The atmosphere is kind of small but attractive. Servers are always kind and friendly. The fresh baked bread is the best around.
Appealing, funky lodge decor, disappointing food: The Lodge Pub and Eatery delivered as advertised on the funky lodge decor and live music but fell short on the warm, comfortable and cozy parts. The rough hewn post and beam construction promises warm and cozy. The *gone fishing* signs and Stag Heads & Jackalope motif sets the lodge tone. Sadly the sterile Formica-top tables, paper placemats and cheap banquet chair seating spoils the effect. Fine dining this isn't. Warm, comfortable, cozy dining this isn't.
Translate the *cozy* lounge to read a small, cramped bar. 'Live music' translates into a one-man show -wedged into the already overcrowded lounge -making the fully adequate music completely inaudible from the dining room. The dining crowd is loud, boisterous and oblivious to their fellow diners and their own obnoxious behavior. Romantic dining this isn't.
All of this could be taken in stride had the food been superior or even good, but its not. The Specials menu is extensive, so we sampled the Top Shelf offerings. The Onion Ring Special appetizer was heavily breaded, oddly flavored and completely inedible. The 'surf and turf' Prime Rib special wasn't any better. Charred and heavily seasoned with peculiar spices we didnt particularly care for, the cut was overdone and mediocre in quality. The 'surf' part of this nightmare special was shrimp stuffed with a completely inedible stuffing mix a perfect insult to perfectly good shrimp. The baked potato was served hot, but underdone. Hard, crunchy baked potatoes belong in the oven not on my plate.
The high points were a perfectly respectable salad bar with fresh, hot loaves of Italian bread for slicing and the friendly staff. Service was prompt, courteous and surprisingly attentive.
Think jeans casual; go for the salad bar, a brew and plebian pub fare with your more rowdy friends and you wont be disappointed. For business dining, romantic dining, or quality food prepared by a chef do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
Nice local get-a-way: Menu is fairly small especially for families with smaller children. Prices are a bit high but the atmosphere is well worth the extra $$. (Cozy and warm)
