| About: | Sakura is located in the heart of busy Wickenden Street, close to downtown Providence. It specializes in sushi and vegetarian dinners and what it claims as some of the best teriyaki and sukiyaki in town. Maki is emphasized here, along with house specials like Udon Suki (noodle soup with seafood and vegetables). The ambiance is very Japanese, including an authentic Tatami Room. If you and your date like raw fish, you may want to order Loveboat for Two, which involves an assortment of sushi, sashimi and maki. |

duck roll is great and so are the chef special rolls. the shef's are awesome, extremely nice and welcoming...only downside is the waitress that works lunch time on weekdays. I come here usually 1-2 times a week and she has not been nice to me yet. Very short and unpleasant. Always has an attitude. It'd be nice if she smiled once in a while...still love the place and will continue to go.
I've grown up with sushi both in Asia and the States. My family and I often make sushi from scratch. I'm also pretty sure I've visited over a 100 sushi restaurants and I'm pretty confident of my taste in Japanese food.
Sakura will remain, in my opinion, THE worst sushi restaurant I've visited. The fish, despite RI's proximity to the ocean, is not fresh at all; 2 out of 2 times I visited (second time due to an obligation), it was quite disappointing. Not a hint of freshness.
The service is absolutely TERRIBLE too. Waiters and waitresses, especially on the weekends, constantly push you and frown. It's understandable because the restaurant is a cramped tiny place but they treated me and my 8 friends in a very disrespectful manner. The people bark at you and literally toss your plates on the table. One of them even started grumbling in chinese when a couple of people at our table asked her to repeat some options for their meals.
Never going back again, even if they paid me.
sakura: The house name sake sakura is excellent, as well as the loveboat for two. The spicy tuna roll is excellent and I agree the soup could be better. As a few of the other reviews state, sometimes the service lacks, depends on the wait staff but overall the food keeps us going back for more.
