Since my last review, my rating has been decreased from a 5 star Excellent.
Only 3 stars now since the new Owner has implemented changes that affect the local people.
    Some changes are:
more bulk meats for less money per pound which is good for the big family, but what about the small families and elderly? Single and smaller packages for double the money? Great move!, make more money off the elderly and small families who can't afford it. Sounds like the government. Make money off the people who can't afford it. (the little guy)
I looked tonight (9/22/08) at the meat counter, Cube steak was $4.59/lb, 85% lean hamburg $2.99/lb, London Broil $3.99/lb. The way I see it is, Cube steak should be a little more than hamburg, (less labor to grind) and certainly should be less than London Broil. Cube steak was always the cheap steak to buy.
Top Round beef no longer exists at the Limerick Supermarket as it did during the LMO (Limerick Mills Outlet) days.
The tourist are temporary and the locals are permanent, take care for the locals and the store will survive. The Lobster tank was great for the tourists, how many locals buy lobster at $6.99/lb +?
Looking at my 30 years of purchasing local, "buying the LMO one dollar at a time" over the years, I have decided to start shopping deals elsewhere. My time at the Limerick Supermarket has decreased this year by 30%-40%. I have been one of the biggest supporters of LMO & Limerick Supermarket.
For the year 2007 spending $9000+, (based on my Quicken Program), at the Limerick Supermarket will turn into approximately $5700.00. Do higher prices actually mean increased profits? I don't think so. If someone charges a fair price with good quality, they will sell more in quantity. If the prices become too high, it then becomes a convenience store where people only go to buy what they need if & when they need it in a pinch.
Sorry to say, but I am re-allocating my grocery money to other entities to get the most "bang for the buck".
The employees are great local people, the facility is great for cleanliness, the employees care about the people they serve. No complaints on service at all, just pricing and justification there of.
Final thought to remember; Be fair and make a fair profit, don't make excessive markups, remember the elderly and poor, they still need to live. When one loses sight of the local people that support them over profit, it is the beginning of the end.
So with this all being said,
I sign off as: "One Dollar at a Time"

Contrary to previous comment: Contrary to the last most recent post of March 7, 2007, I am repulsed by the nature of the review. This review was obviously written by someone other than a permanent resident of Limerick. The Limerick Supermarket is a small Mom & Pop type business and it is old, no doubt, however, this IS a small town, and our citizens needs are just as small. Perhaps the owner of the previous review should continue to travel nearly 15 miles to the super store chain of Hannaford in Waterboro if your needs are not being met. Agreed, the VERY slow lines due to the very UN-updated credit/debit system is very annoying, however, if after the first couple of visits you have learned that the system is slow, then why bother to become angry and leave hostile reviews?
As for the meat being improperly handled, I have been purchasing my meats, poultry and seafood from the market for many years and have NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER have had any problems. The prices are unbeatable, the selection is small yes, but they carry enough to get by on and everything is FRESH. If the problems you claim to have seen were so rampant within the store, it would have been shut down long ago.
As for loud cashiers, they are the friendliest cashiers I've encountered. They are not young teenagers with purple hair and face piercings flirting with managers and other cashiers.....like you would see in Hannaford......
So, In closing, I am appauled by your review and resent it as a resident of Limerick and a long time patron of the Limerick Market.
