I've been happy with this grocery store. For a store in a relatively small town, I find it surprisingly well stocked with a large variety of produce, organic foods, deli, meat, seafood and more. The prices are reasonable and on the occasion there is something I can't find there, its not difficult to drive a few minutes to the city to find it.

Hampden's only full service grocery is a disappointment. My wife is partial to certain vegetables, and Edward's produce department is poorly stocked, and quite often the produce is going bad as it sits on the shelf. The staff is hit or miss when it comes to manners. Most of the adult women clerks at the checkout are quick, efficient, pleasant and professional. Some of the male clerks are inattentive, too busy flirting to do their jobs.

One in particular, a young fellow with dark hair and a beard, I didn't catch his name, is rude as well. He was working the customer service desk when I walked up to purchase a lottery ticket. He was helping an older gentleman who was purchasing a money order or something at a window that was not open for business. I think the older gentleman had started his business at the only open window, and when the clerk moved to the machine that dispensed the money orders, he followed him to that window, even though it was closed. After I stepped up to the open window, another patron came over to the customer service desk to purchase his groceries. He got in line behind the older gentleman, which left me wondering what would happen next. When the older gentleman finished his business, the patron with the groceries stepped forward, and the clerk said "I'm sorry sir, I'll have to help you over here" indicating the window I was standing at. He then moved to my window, and asked me to move out of the way. This is not the first time something like this has happened to me in this store, and I guess I lost my temper. I asked the young man if I was invisible. He replied "this gentleman was first." I said, no he wasn't, he had to walk past me to get to the closed window he was at when you redirected him. The young man simply stared at me and said, "No he wasn't." Like I said, this is not the first experience of rudeness I've experienced at Edward's, so I said "Forget it!" and walked away. I asked at the checkout if the manager was in, but being Saturday, he was not. I intend to go in on Monday and talk to him about this situation, and the young man who was so inattentive, and rude. I don't expect an adequate response.

I was with someone shopping here when I noticed two dogs locked inside a very hot car. The temp was 95 out, and one of the dogs was passed out. I was unable to open the car doors as the other dog was ugly and was barking, growling, and jumping up at the glass in the window to get to me. I went inside to ask them to make an announcement that the owner of the car needed to check on their dogs, as they needed medical attention. The person at the service desk and the manager that was there told me that there was nothing they could do. They stated that people could bring their dogs and leave them in their parked cars and this was something that they "could not get involved with". Long story short...I called the police who thankfully responded quickly. I will never shop at this, or any other place, that doesn't have compassion for living beings in danger and refuses to provide assistance getting medical attention to them!!!!!
