We stopped for lunch on our way home to Boston from Madawaska and I'm sorry to say we were really disappointed with the food. The server and speed were EXCELLENT. However, the shrimp alfredo was clearly a canned and watered down sauce with overcooked shrimp. Thankfully, they appeared to be local shrimp, just maybe those from a couple of years ago. My "jumbo" lobster roll was made with frozen lobster meat, which as everyone knows if you don't defrost fully before mixing with the mayo, you wind up with a watery, chewy mess. There were 2 claws and some other chunks of smaller meats, but no tail meat to speak of, which I would have expected for their largest roll. The roll wasn't toasted, the lettuce was gigantic, and frankly, a jumbo roll should have at least one WHOLE lobster in it. The ceasar salad was bottled dressing, but at least that was good quality and had a nice flavor. The fries were good, but again, frozed crinkle cut. Isn't Maine the biggest provider of both lobster and potatoes? Then why am I getting stuff I can buy at Hannaford in a big frozen bag?
For the price, I guess this is average on a good day, but I won't be stopping there again. Such a letdown from the great food in Madawaska.
The best Governor's in the State: The atmosphere at this Restaurant is one of the best, so down to home comfortable place to eat at.
The service and the food is one of the best you'd ever have. Prices are very moderate.
Lovin' It: This restaurant is simply the best. The food tastes better than homemade, you get plenty, and their bread...a dream. I live in NYC and have been to many "fancy" or "nice" places. But Governors is always on top of my list.
The atmosphere is family style so children are always welcome (we used to bring my two year old sister Julia with us, no problems).
Trust me, if you are in the area, go to Governors, you woan't regret it.
As their slogan goes EAT DESERT FIRST!!!!
