The new owner's came in about 2 years ago, it's gone nothing but UP all the way, from restorations within, to menu!
I work on main st.
Often, I alone run the shop, they ask, "can we bring this to you?" That's service!
Other's have complained about prices, that's because the the ingredients are the best there is, period. Soups are always made from scratch, A fav, is the daily quesadilla, served with their fresh salsa, and sour cream.
Pizza? no, not just any pizza,... gourmet, and just the way you like it!
They also have "Round Top" ice cream, [in MANY flavors,] which is made right here in Maine, and that's always good news!
Bring your little one, and he/she can express their creative side, by drawing on the gynormous chalk board, that is the
Thorndike Creamery!
I met the owner of this fine establishment one rainy night this summer on his lucious property in Rockland. Despite looking like a fierce Viking warlord, we soon realized his understanding of cuisine and creative approach to cooking. He encouraged us to stop by the Creamery to try his trademark slice, a specialty he created called simply "the Thorndike."My party and I live in New York City, and consider ourselves quite knowledgeable on the subject of pizza, and were intrigued by his description of a sauce less slice with fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, bacon and a special blend of cheeses. It was amazing, and quite possibly the best slice I have ever tasted..and if you are anywhere within a reasonable distance of Rockland, a stop in the quaint Main St. lined with art galleries and small bistros to pick up a slice and a scop at Thorndike Creamery is imperative.
I've been a regular since it first opened. The recent changes with the new owners have been, in my opinion negative for the most part. I do, however like the addition of hot soups and sandwiches...along with white pizza. I wish they stayed with Annabelle's ice cream, as it's much creamier and has a lot more flavor than Round Top. The pizza has taken a turn for the worst too. It's probably higher quality now, because before the came prepackaged, as did the sauce and the cheese. It tasted better though. They also made the pizzas out in the open where you watch the dough being tossed up. It really made you crave a slice.
I know that I just trashed the place, but I still love it and go there regularly to see friends (both employees and other regulars). The ice cream is still good, the hot fudge is better than it was, and the atmosphere is just as friendly as ever. The price could be a little lower, but I really don't mind paying it. If you're just looking for ice cream the choice is clearly Dorman's, but if you're looking to sit down and have a full, healthy meal of ice cream, pizza, and soda you want "The Creamery".
