WAS MY FAVORITE!!!!...On a recent visit to J Gilberts like so many others i was looking forward to there ribs. But after arriving, and looking at the new menu i was disappointed to see that they have changed the menu. Not wanting to leave and go somewhere else at that time, i had to order there "replacment" for the ribs, which was no where comparable to the ribs. And the portions are much smaller now, after noticing my wifes steak. Well J Gilberts, thanks for the memories, see you when the menu is back to normal. Rememer you are a steak place, it seems you have forgotten that.
Alas. All good things must come to an end. We have dined at J. Gilbert's many times since they first opened. Our opinion was always that they were not only very good, but that they were a very good steak house vis-a-vis others. Getting a complete meal for your money beats having to buy everything a la carte.
This was our most recent visit. Alas. All good things must come to an end. The service was as good as usual, and the appetizers stood up to those we had had in the past. The entrees were a different story. Our steaks (filets) were so salty as to be practically inedible. When I mentioned this to our server, she replied that they are using some "spice" on the meat. I guess that made it OK. The other thing I noticed (which may be due to the economy) was that portions seem smaller if memory serves. I'm sure that the 4 oz. filet medallions used to be 6 oz.; and that the 6 oz. filet used to be 8 oz.
Bottom line: it will be a while before we return ... we might cross it off of our list. Yes, they have been pricey, but you felt in the past that you were getting good value for your dollar.
If you do have to try it ... and you don't like (or can't eat) a lot of salt: mention it to your server before you order.
I went there last night for dinner, the server kevin was very good, unfortunatly the place was alot louder then i was ready for but the food was excellent. My husband had the steak loved it, not super cheap, they break alot of glass there for somereason idk if it was just the night over all very good i cut my hand on glass, and the manager took care of it A over all
