User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThe food is quite average, yet the prices do not reflect that. Wayyyy overpriced for the portions and quality of ingredients. Will there ever be good (and reasonable) Mexican food in this town?

I have watched this place slowly but surely go down hill over the past few years now.It is way overpriced, dirty (check out where they keep the tortilla chips in a big bag on the kitchen floor as you walk to the mens room), and the service is AWFUL!! (waitress talking on her cell when she came with the check)after being unattentive to us and the one other couple that was eating there that night. The owners have another place in Stonington now, and I think they have spread too thin, because this place used to be a treat(expensive treat)now it is just depressing, filthy,and smelly ,with the decor of dead cobweb covered houseplants in the windows. I'm not sure which is worse this place or the Broken Yolk on Montauk Ave.....Oh yeah did I mention the overpriced "Country Time Lemonade Margaritta"? very disapointing, I wish I had just driven the half hour and gone to Cukoo's Nest in Saybrook, But I live here in town and wanted to buy local

I went last year on my anniversary, and I loved it. I didn't know anything about it so it was a nice surprise. The atmosphere and service were great. I'm not sure what the name of my meal was, but I had the chicken breast with rice and black beans which was delicious (I had this same meal at a different restaurant, and it did not come close to how good Zavala's was).
