What a bunch of Snobs .Arrived 15min prior my reservation and was told they was closed and we should come back in 15 min. Hello ??? Has anyone heard the word hospitality ? Forget the food quality, I wouldn't go back there if the food was free. If you like being treated rudely, you will fit right in otherwise ,STAY AWAY
Went to The River Tavern on August 10, 20o9. First Time. Had a reservation for 7:30. Were not seated until 8:00, although there were empty tables everywhere. We were told that our tables guests were just fininshing up, (we had not requested a specific table). After 30 minutes we were seated at another table. The restaurant has very cramped quarters. My seat was constantly being bumped by patrons and staff members.
Very, very loud, you cannot hear your dinner companions, don't plan to have any sort of meaningful conversation. Some people enjoy this type of atmoshere, we did not.
One of the staff was very nice (a young man, who I believe is the busser) Our waitress was, well you decide, she dropped some of my salad into my drink, one would expect an apology or something, nothing, just left it there for me to fish out. I was sure that she was going to return with another drink, that did not happen either. I brought it to attention of the busser, he was great, immediately removed the glass and returned with another, I believe Luke is his name, maybe he should be a waiter.
The food was good, not great, I had a ceasar salad, chicken, ham and cheese crepes, and the chocolate souffle. Reasonalbly priced.
I would not return to The River Tavern due to the cramped, loud quarters, and the service certainly left something to be desired. It seems that they definetely cater to the regulars, maybe we would of been one of the regulars, but it appears they are not interested in new clientele.
What good things can I say? Atmosphere is lively and décor is nice. Some of the wait staff is friendly.
My friends and I decided to meet there one night and made reservations for 4 at 6:00. Not the busiest time of night so that wasnât a problem. However, we had a couple of people get hung up at work, so we called to ask if we could push the reservation back to 6:30. The response was not something we expected; We were told that we could but we had to be off the table before 8:00 as it was reserved for another group. (Note: Itâs not like we had requested a specific table). We arrived at the restaurant and were again reminded that the table wwere seated. We had drinks and ordered some appetizers. Having been here before we knew to request minimal ground pepper in the avocado dip. Even so, it was still heavy with ground pepper.
Every dish here in my experience, and yes this visit was my 3rd, and last, is heavily spiced with ground pepper as well as other herbs and spices, so much so that the food itself can barely be tasted. I donât understand how others find this palatable. I give this place 2 stars only because in my prior experiences the wait staff was friendly and helpful. The Maitre dâs on more than one occasion have not been so gracious.
Anyhow, my friends and I ended up staying way past the 8:00 time with no dire consequences and the restaurant was never so full as the Maitre d would have had us expect. This experience was very off putting, and because I donât find the food to be of any great culinary delight, I doubt I will be going here again.
