Yeah, this place wasn't that bad when I went there. I've been there once and the food was outstanding. However, small portions and it is a bit expensive. There are plenty of high quality places like this that serve bigger portions at lower prices. Service was great though and the staff very friendly. This is a once a year kind of place for me just to see if it gets better with portions.
Typhoon is my favorite restaurant in Middletown, and is among my favorites in the region. First and foremost, the food tastes great. Every dish I've ever had there has been excellent. I especially love the seaweed salad (tastes much better than it sounds!), the tom yam soup, and the massaman curry. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the waitresses are efficient and sweet. The prices are very affordable, and it's a BYOB restaurant (with a liquor store a few doors down if you forget to bring a bottle), which also saves money. The one negative is the music on Saturday night. The last couple of times we were there on Saturday night, we had to endure a belly dancer performing to too-loud music, but it's quiet every other night of the week that we've gone, and I think the belly dancer didn't start performing until 8 pm.
Excellent food, pleasant, efficient staff, nice atmosphere. One of several gems along Middletown's Main Street. BYOB makes it a huge bargain. My favorite is the Basil Fish.
Also check them out for lunch. They have a list of 5-dollar lunch specials that provide the perfect amount of food for midday and leave you feeling satisfied and healthy.
On occasion, they'll have live instrumental music (weekends, I think) which I could do without. But everything else is great. Lovely interior. Usually parking on Main St., but it can be crowded on a Friday night. There's a municipal lot behind the place accessible off Washington St. (Rt 66)
