| About: | El Sombrero, located a couple of miles from I-84, specializes in American-Mexican cuisine. The dishes are generally mild; but if you like it hot, you can make it hot with the house's special chili sauce. Reviewers praise the staffs' attentiveness and friendliness. The strolling mariachi band brings a little romance to this Southington cantina. |

The best Margaritas ever. They are not afraid to pour. Food is the best of the best. No resturant can do a fajhita like El Sombrero. They will cook you anything. If it's not on the menue, they will cool to your likeing. Great people and great friends. If you want real Mexican food, you have to try them.
What has happened to this place?! First off the place is FILTHY. Seriously. It seemed like they gave up on cleaning months ago. Clearly their idea of cleaning was to keep the lights off in all the corners. Secondly, the food was absolutely awful. Yes, the chips and salsa are fine. I don't go out to eat to have chips and salsa. My fiancee ordered two soft chicken tacos...they came covered in red sauce, contained a couple SHREDS of lettuce and chicken. Thats it. She surmissed that they must not have any fresh produce. I had two chicken enchiladas mole. The mole sauce was not bad. The rice was old and obviously had been reheated multiple times. The beans...were funky. I am still burping them up. I ate there 6 hours ago. I have eaten here many times although I have not been there in over a year. I saw that the owner bought a place in Wolcott and I can only imagine that is where he has been. My advice to him: spend a little time in Southington to get it back on track or close the place before someone gets sick
The best Mexican food in central Connecticut. Be warned, it's authentic. So if you're more used to Americanized Mexican food, you may bite off more then you can chew. The pork Adobo is truly special and the more generic enchilada, taco, burrito, chimechanga dishes are all very good too.
Excellent salsa and chips for free.
The BEST (read: strongest) margaritas north of Texas.
Mariachi band takes requests!
5 stars if you love Mexican, less (obviously) if you don't.

Are you sure you were at the place in Southington? Your review sure doesn't sound like the place I've been going to regularly since the late 80's. There's no place like it in the area. I have NEVER had a bad meal and the service is outstanding. As for being filthy, again, I don't know what restaurant you were in.
