Great food! Great service! Italia Mia is a great place to go with your family or friends. The food is absolutely magnificent and the bread is to die for :)
So that review from 1/02/09 is totally nuts. I have been eating at Italia Mia for what feels like about 20 years and the place is great. Seriously, the guy who wrote that review must have the time and the ego to drive around western CT sampling Italian fair so he can throw his overestimated "critical" opinion out on yahoo and I think that guy needs something else in his life. The bottom line is that Italia Mia serves really good food, in a really great location, for a really nice price. Great food, great value, and just about every time I walk in there I see the owner behind the counter keeping an eye on things. Oh yeah, I lived in NYC, New Milford, Boston and Providence. I would put Italia Mia's pizza head to head with any pizza place in anyone of those cities without shame, there are better ones and that's fact, but even in the cities Italia Mia pizza is far better than average and I think it is the best you will find in New Milford.
Being local, and eating out very frequently, I have visited Italia Mia many times in as many years. Most recently around the xmas holiday season following shopping in the area. Though Italia Mia offers a diverse menu of the most popular Italian meals, I can only recommend their pizza. Dinner prices are typically ~$2.00 higher per meal versus comparable meals offered from other local Italian restaurants. Favoring italian food, and recognizing the differences and quality between "fast (Italian) food" and "family owned" quality. I am continually disappointed by Italia Mia's quality of food and service. Being a frequent visitor of the many italian restaurants in the area from Bridgeport through Litchfield I personally do not favor Italia Mia's food given other (local) choices.
When visiting Italia Mia look for these tell tale signs:
- Portions are less then expected for price paid.
- Dinner salad is very small, bread is provided though only 1 small dinner roll per person.
- Appetizers, such as Mozz sticks and/or calamari do not taste like quality food, shrimp cocktail is often "fishy" tasting, while overall the quality appears to be generic pre-packaged substitutes for fresh higher quality foods.
- Prices are cleary above average
- Service is noticably slow and certain servers are "cold" in their hospitality.
- Seating is tightly arranged, so quiet and/or private conversation is not likely during peak hours.
