User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI have always believed that one should support local businesses, and shun the megastores whenever possible. Ridgefield Hardware makes it easy to save a trip to Home Despot, because they have almost everything you would need and at competitive prices.
The first sign you are in good hands is when you grab the door handles: they are highly polished claw hammers! As soon as you enter the store, you are often asked by one of the employees at the counter what it is you need. Once they learn this, they direct you to the correct area (there are two floors) and then radio the appropriate employee in the area where you are headed. Once you arrive there, another employee, who already has an idea what you are looking for, guides you to what you need and is ready to answer any questions. What a contrast to Home Despot where you have to CHASE down an employee who usually is reluctant, too dumb or too lazy to help; half the time, the Home Despot employees get it wrong. "Toggle switches are in aisle 10". Then when you get there, no toggle switches. Another Home Despotian there tells you, "No, they are in aisle 1!" and so on. And, to make it worse, the quality of the HARDWARE Home Despot sells is junk. I have had many Home Despot screws fall apart upon tightening- Chinese junk!
Ridgefield Hardware carries good quality hardware, including fasteners (I believe they are Cargill, US made). Their prices are fair, they are local, and they are family owned. The employees actually know something about what they sell, and if they don't, they will honestly say so.
They are affiliated with the Ace Hardware cooperative, and so can offer competetive prices on even large items such as grills, snow blowers, and so on.
As another reviewer said, it is a handyman's paradise, and have lots of cool tools and geegaws to ogle.

User Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA Man's Playground: Good prices and great looking place. They have everything. Friendly, knowledgable staff and plenty of helpers -- a refreshing change from the ugly Home Depot experience.
