Garden State Honda (Clifton) agreed on the telephone to sell me a 2008 CR-V EX-L at $850 below invoice price, if I buy it before 10/31/2008. We went to the dealership on 10/31/2008 and found that there was a blemish under the rear wind shield. They behaved as if they did not know about it and tried to remove it, but could not. When I asked the sales person to call the service manager, he said that it was acid and the only way to fix it is to replace the entire glass. He offered to give me another $200.00 deduction, which we did not agree. When I asked for another vehicle at the same price, he went back and forth saying that he is getting another vehicle and then telling me it is sold. His behavior made me believe that he was not truthful. Then he proposed another vehicle with some options (useless options as far as I am concerned) at a much higher price. We walked off from the dealership, after wasting half a day of our valuable time. Be very very careful in dealing with this dealer, so that you are not being cheated.

PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE THE NEW "HYPE" ABOUT CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT...IT'S "HYPE." WE LEASED A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY - EX-L IN SEPTEMBER 2007, TOOK THE CAR BACK TWICE FOR SERVICE BECAUSE WE SUSPECTED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE (WE THOUGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE AIR CONDITIONER AS THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR). WELL, THEY FOUND NOTHING TWICE AND I WAS ASSURED I WOULD BE SAFE. ON THE STORMIEST NIGHT OF THE SEASON - DECEMBER 23 - THE BELT BROKE ON THE CAR AS I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY. I DON'T WANT TO FORGET TO MENTION THAT THE SALESMAN WHO SOLD ME THE CAR HAS BEEN THERE FOR 23 YEARS; HE GAVE US 3 KEYS - ONLY 1 WAS PROGRAMMED TO WORK; ALSO, THE NEW CAR HAD NO OWNER'S MANUAL. WE HAD TO RETURN TO GET THE KEYS PROGRAMMED AND HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS FOR THE MANUALS.
BACK TO THE STORY...WHEN THE BELT BROKE OFF THE ENTIRE STIRRING WENT. I COULDN'T EVEN STIR THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER...I HAD TO STOP DEAD IN THE STREET WHILE A TRUCK AND BUS (I WAS ON A TRUCK ROUTE) TOOTED ANGRILY AT ME. IT WAS THE SCARIEST MOMENT IN MY LIFE. THE "NEW" GENERAL MANAGER (WHO'S NAME IS "JOE"...SEE GOOD COMMENTS BELOW) UNDERSTOOD MY FEAR FOR DRIVING A NEW CAR AND THE BELT FALLING OUT IN OUR INITIAL CONVERSATION. TALK ABOUT RESPECT...WE HAVE CALLED JOE REPEATEDLY FOR A REPLACEMENT CAR; THE DEALERSHIP STILL HAS THE CAR AND NO ONE HAS THE RESPECT TO RETURN OUR PHONE CALLS. WHO'S GOING TO DRIVE A 3-MONTH OLD BRAND NEW CAR WHEN THE BELT HAS FALLEN OUT; AND THEY EXPECT US TO CARRY OUR CHILDREN IN THE CAR. AFTER THAT NIGHT MY CHILDREN WON'T PUT A FOOT IN THAT CAR. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!
GOD BLESS ANYONE WHO BELIEVE'S THEIR HYPE. OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU!! WE'RE IN FOR A LONG RIDE AND TRUST US, YOU WILL BE IN FOR AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE.
I ALMOST FORGOT...FOLLOWING A MEETING ON A THURSDAY IN JANUARY, THE GENERAL MANAGER, JOE, SHOOK MY HUSBAND'S HAND, PROMISING AND ASSURING HIM THAT HE WOULD GET BACK TO HIM BY MONDAY. HE WOULD BE CONTACTING SOMEONE HE KNEW TO HELP US IN THIS SITUATION. HE ALSO COMMENTED ON THE FACT THAT HE WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SAFETY AND THE LAST THING HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT WAS EATING THE COST OF REPLACING THE CAR...OUR SAFETY WAS HIS MAIN CONCERN. SO BEWARE OF THE GENTLEMAN'S HANDSHAKE...IT'S A SIGN OF DISRESPECT AT GARDEN STATE HONDA.
I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER COMMENTS. BUT THEY TREATED ME WITH GREAT RESPECT. THIER PRICE WAS MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER DEALER. THEY KEPT THIER WORD ON EVERYTHING PROMISED. THE NEW OWNERSHIP IS GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO OVER COME THE PRIOR OWNER MISHANDLINGS. THEY DID A GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!
