the tavern is awful. the food in the fine dining side is outstanding, the chef has amazing tastebuds. however, the front end manager does not foster a warm cozy feeling. there is one bartender that is always particularly crabby. i am very disappointed in this previous favorite. while most of the staff is enjoyable and the clientele is usually fun and diverse, my only frustration is the management. it is seriously lacking in all respects, and it's apparent. customer loyalty is nonexistent. shame really, this used to be a wonderful place.
Extremely disappointing- My family had an event there over the weekend and the wait staff was beyond sub par. They were completely indifferent and actually seemed annoyed when we made any small request (like sweeping up the floor or wiping up spills). No one really seemed to be in charge of managing the party and not once were we asked if we needed anything or how things were going. Many of the guests had to go to the bar to get drinks (which were cash bar so you think they would want to serve more) and right before the cake was served we were informed there was a $1.50/per guest plating fee. Additionally, the condition of the patio and dining room was filthy. When we walked through the courtyard to enter the restaurant it was laden with cigarette butts and garbage from the night before and the dining room floor needed swept and was extremely sticky. Fortunately, this was cleaned up before most guests arrived. The only real positive was the food. It was great. Overall, I would NOT recommend booking a private party at the Stage House, and as a frequent customer of both the Tavern and the Stage House, who looked forward to enjoying an event there, I was shocked by the staff's poor attitude and the condition of the faciltiy.
A WONDERFUL EATERY: I HAVE YET TO HAVE THE PLEASURE OF DINING AT THE STAGE HOUSE RESTAURANT & WINE BAR SINCE CHEF DAVID DRAKE MOVED ON TO OPEN HIS NEW RESTAURANT DAVID DRAKE IN RAHWAY, NEW JERSEY. HOWEVER I WILL SAY THAT I WORKED AT STAGE HOUSE WHEN CHEF DRAKE WAS THERE & AT THAT TIME CHEF MICHAEL WAS THE SOUS CHEF. CHEF MICHAEL KNOWS HIS STUFF & I KNOW HE'LL PRESENT NOTHING SHY OF GREATNESS IN HIS RESTAURANT.
