Portobello Feasts

The Portobello in Oakland, NJ should in many respects be viewed as a 'Must Visit' destination, similar to a landmark, etc. I say this because it's is simply stunning in it's visual appeal and if Tuscany inspired architecture drives you, then you've got to go.
That said, the food was good and the ambience was solid (not spectacular, but rather appealing overall). The prices for lunch were again par for the course, but given the aesthetics, I'd say - a tremendous bargain.
Now for the does of realism - similar to other reviewers, who simply don't make this stuff up, but like me - experience it and report the facts - the wait staff was really bad! It appeared to me that there wasn't much in the way of training for the new staff - & it showed. When I visited, there were 4 other tables downstairs with me & every single one of them compalained about wrong, food, cold dishes, waiting too long, no refills, etc. etc.
Overall - I'll go back again. I only hope that the quality of the staff has caught up to the the food & the sheer beauty & elegance of the establishment.

I an a Professional DJ and I have DJayed there mant times.They treat the DJ's like SH_T!!! They don't have an Elevator and expect us in and out in 20 minutes!!! What a crock!!!
The Maitre'D doesn't care if we get fed or will even give us a table.
She only wants us to pack up as fast as possible so she can go home..
Too much Flash not enough Customer Service Stay Away!!!

This place had the WORSE service I have ever encountered. The wait staff is complied of young kids who have zero training. It took at least 20 minutes for a glass of wine. In the meantime I killed a huge fly and a big crawling bug on the window next to me.I asked the waiter to kill the bugs and he disappered. (bathroom is GROSS, NO toilet paper at all) Finally, we were given the wrong food. Then we took a nap. My friend ordered stuffed sole with no butter or sauce and the kid came back and said they can't do that. They have to put sauce and butter on it.
Say WHAT!. The menu cleary states they will accomodate any needs.
What we ordered were two chicken dishes swimming in butter and oil.
The kid finally came back about 30 minutues later and asked if we wanted more wine, which we finally got after our plates were cleared and dessert was done. We didn't have one specific waiter. Four different kids came and went and never returned. At the next table the waitress dropped a huge plate of food on the floor and the people. The wait staff should have scrambled to clean in up. Nope, they responded just like teenagers would; waiting for someone else to clean it up. We had to walk over it to exit the place. The entertainer in the bar was good and we would return only for that reason. We got the check two weeks later, and we were over charged. You can actually walk out and they would not notice. We met a guy who was familiar with this place and asked "how was the service"?
we said horrible and he laughed. Apparently, it is a well known fact. The place looks could and lacks EVERYTHING else. Don't go!! And, no we do not compete in a business sense with this restaurant. It really is as bad as people say. The food is average or below and the prices were avarage too but the serivce is beyond bad. You can't even get mad because it's so ridiculous.
