I adopted a kitten from this shelter and the staff was friendly during the adoption process since they charged me $75. Kept the kitten for 3 days. She was throwing up after meals, developed diarrhea which included blood in the stool. I contacted the vet who indicated that the kitten has some major medical issues and should be returned back to the shelter for medical care. I called the shelter and advised them tha I will be returning the kitten. When I arrived for the return, the shelter was understaffed and there were several people waiting in line. Finally it was my turn and I explained that the kitten was seriously sick and that I looking to return her. The manager came and was rude explaining that it is normal for kittens to have blood in the stool (I never heard of this before and this was contrary to what the vet advised). I of course gave them the food and cat litter I had bought which cost about $30. I have to say that I regret this since their treatment of me was horrible. I explained to the manager that the kitten was sick and that she had bleeding in the stool which concerned me. The manager (I believe her name was Becky) was nasty and took the kitten in my carrier and said she will bring the carrier back. She disappeared for 10-15 minutes while the rep was preparing the return and eventually came back. In an obnoxious manner, she said that the kitten is perfectly healthy and that there is nothing wrong with her and she showed me the carrier which contained stool from another pet indicating that the stool was normal. I knew this was not my kitten's stool since she had diarrhea with bleeding. I argued that this was not my kitten's stool but the manager insisted it was and gave me back the carrier with the stool in it. I brought the carrier home and compared the stool and certainly it was not my kitten's. I cannot believe they would stoop that low to try to prove a point. The stool she placed was that of a larger cat or a dog and not a kitten. This is unbelievable. I would not recommend adopting a pet from this shelter. The staff is rude, obnoxious and they certainly don't care about the animal's welfare. This is a not for profit organization but I truly believe they are indirectly benefiting from charging people $75 to $100. My advice: STAY AWAY
Once I was trying to adopt a puppy, that was hit by a car. The dog was sitting in a cage with a fractured hip, dirty and in pain. People at the shelter were so rude to me for no reason, that I just walked away. The vet, who works for a shelter never returned my phonecalls. In 2 days I came back. Pure dog was put to sleep. I wanted to give him a chance. I care. They don't.
I adopted a cat from the shelter- after taking the cat to the doctor she was diagnosed with ringworm, feline asthma, bronchitis, an ear infection, and I spent over $3200.00 in less than 4 weeks trying to care for my cat. When I called the shelter to see what they could do to assist me, they were rude, it took forever to get anyone on the phone, and they were not helpful. I adopted a cat in order to give an animal a good home. I of course don't mind trying to help this poor, sick cat- but once the cat was out of their shelter, they could care less what happened to her- and basically washed their hands of the situation... If I ever adopt a pet again from an animal shelter, it won't be from this one!

I hear ya loud and clear, Jayess. Last year, a friend and I went there to adopt a black cat because his beloved black cat died, and he was heartbroken. He wanted another black cat. So we went there and there was an ADORABLE little black cat about 10 wks. old.. screaming to get out of his cage. We petted him and were already in love. Well, as you said, the management there is terrible. The woman in charge, the Manager, I forgot her name... walked off the desk and disappeared for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, there was a long line forming.. and I made a remark that she shouldn't have just walked away and left people standing there. Who knows what she was doing. When it came time for us to register to get the cat, she gave us such a hard time about getting approval from our landlord. Almost everyone in our apt. complex has cats. Well, we were so disgusted, we walked out. About a week later we went to the Lyndhurst Humane Society and he found a cute little black cat there. Bottom line... Teteroboro is a kill shelter, but for good people who want to adopt an animal, they do everything possible to prevent you from adopting an animal.. yet, they have no qualms about euthanizing them. Lousy attitudes and lousy management there! I would never recommend this shelter to anyone!!!!
