I normally donât go through the trouble of writing a review, but the 1 star review seem to be over the top. I was meeting friends for super bowl Sunday and needed directions, and saw the reviews and the first one I saw just seemed to be someone with a grudge or had a problem with one person, and could no longer be objective. So let me throw my experience out there. As I said I had recently gone to the Red Oak for Super Bowl Sunday Buffet Promo. For $16 they had hamburgers dogs, tacos, chicken, baked ziti, fries, salad, appetizers and desert. Throw in free soda and 25 cent drafts and a room with 2 large scream TVs, a Bar with three large scream TVs and you get the best way to watch the GMen win. The staff were friendly and always helpful. And the place is clean and comfortable.
I have also eaten here before for diner, this isnât your typical diner. Though the prices are typical diner, that is to say very reasonable, the food quality is a cut above typical diners or a Fridayâs and with the selection variety you only get from a diner. And my experience has been that the staff has been always friendly and fast.
The bonus is they have a liquor license so it makes it a great place to take the kids and you wife on a Friday after work and give the wife a chance to wind down with a glass a wine, or a place to meet the guys to have a beer and a bite to eat.
now the Red Oak Diner...so don't bother: We "USED" to frequent the diner as a family of 5. When it was Adelphi about B+ for food and service. Kids meals were great deals.
Now that its back to Red Oak Diner its questionable.
We went with another family of 6 and the appetizer combo was great/tasty had huge mozzarella stix and tasty chicken and server was great for the large group. We went another time as a party of 5 and good also but THIRD time is NOT a charm?
7/13/07 Friday night for dinner as party of 5 we had to wonder if this was a SELF service eatery? From the start our waitress was edgy and made us feel everything was a bother. Well, hey, she works there, NOT US????
She made the table in front of us seem happy (is it b/c we are Asian and not white?? we are generous tippers, ok? she's lucky to get any tip b/c she was simply rude!) but we were an added burden?
She spoke abruptly and unkindly. When a 10 yr old is asking for a refill, she says "I'm going to get refills in a minute." (little did we realize we'd watch her to take a bathroom break for a long while? our son went to the bathroom too and was back faster than she was?) NEVER did she ask if we were ok or needed ketchup/steak sauce or refills? she had the food out quick, maybe too quick since we ordered appetizers. soggy calamari and skinny, odd shaped mozzarella sticks? unlike anything we've encountered previously? our waitress had help serving our dinners. she told her helper "the little boy gets the steak"???? he's 10 yrs old and we have another son 9 yrs old? what kind of comment is that to say? so when our 9 yr old son needs a drink/refill my husband went up to the bar (b/c waitress is nowhere to be found??) they tried to be helpful but insincere? then the host/manager came over and we did not want to bother with anything other than paying for the meal we ate and left.
i told him, this will be our last visit here & we've had terrible service! i could've gone on and no but didn't want to bother. it wouldn't have done anything anyway.
the mgr did have another waitress finish us up and she was nice.
thats why we left a small tip. only for her but doubt she'll get it.
the mgr did not communicate well with the cashier/hostess b/c i guess he wanted to give some kind of discount. too late for sorry!!?
for diner service, try Park Place diner on 34 or the Aberdeen diner. we will be going there from now on!!!
so, our advice is GO ANYPLACE else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless you'd like
terrible food and service for your family!
The little diner that could.: From the road, it looks like another one of those diners, but the food is actually very good. They have a bar if you need a drink and the service is nice and pleasant. However avoid the fries at all costs as they are the most bland things I have ever tasted(maybe the oil it is fried in). Prices are moderate and the menu is extensive. Eat and enjoy(but avoid the fries!)
