Terribly overpriced and staff is very rude! You can go to about any other venue in New Jersey and get a place that is just as nice or nicer for far less money. Owner is extremely rude, pushy, abnoxious and pompous! I have never felt so compelled in my life to write one of these reviews but I feel as though I need to warn other brides to stay away from this place. I was treated so poorly when I went to go and inquire about having my wedding here. The owner was the guide and he would not stop talking about how great his place was and how nothing else in NJ compares to it. There are so many nice places in NJ and with staff who are nice and actually want to work with you. He was talking so much I could hardly get a word in. He insulted me several times throughout the tour because I had mentioned that I had looked at several other places in the area. He kept telling us about past brides who made terrible decisions that were detrimental to the affair and how he knows exactly what to do and he would make all the decisions for the wedding. In addition to his non stop talking, he kept trying to crack jokes which came off so rehearsed and corny. "Oh is that your sister, ha ha." (It was my mother) "If your fiance was here I would tell him how lucky he was, ha ha." CREEPY! If you want to overpay for a wedding and then have the owner run your entire event this is the place to go. Otherwise, I recommend you stay away from this place. I cannot stress enough how overpriced this place is. I have seen over 20 wedding halls and this was by far the most expensive! The only thing I left this place with was a headache and a pit in my stomach thinking about the way that the owner treated me! Don't waste your time!
I had my wedding at South Gate Manor on August 8, 2009. The owners and staff at SGM made mine and my husband's day absolutely perfect. The service was excellent. Bobby and Jennifer made us feel like a King and Queen. I never had to ask for anything. They anticipated what we would need and were prepared. The cocktail hour was unbelieveable!! I am italian and food definitely matters in my family and they got a two thumbs up from us. The entrees were just as good. I was so excited that jon and I were able to taste all the entrees we picked. It is not often that your guests get 5 entree choices. The chocolate fountains at the end with the cordial bar was a hit. The line was around the room!! I was so busy dancing that I didnt get to taste it but heard it was fabulous. Finally what made SGM so amazing was the ambiance and tone that is set by the decor and staff. I noticed throughout the wedding all the owners were present in some way which was nice to see. My parents, my husband's parents and myself and Jon all got rave reviews from the guests at our wedding. People were calling the next day to say what a great time they had and how amazing the reception hall was. Some who are looking for halls for weddings or other events are already planning to go in and look into using SGM!!! It is by far one of the most beautiful halls in the central jersey area to have an affair. I would highly recommmend it to anyone. You will not be dissappointed. I certainly was not. I know a number of people who have had affairs here and they have all had the same reaction. It is a classy place with owners who are a class act all the way. I am hoping that we will be invited to an affair at SGM in the future so we can attend as guests. Thank you for everything!!!!
Very poor service.: Poor service. Dissorganized staff.
We had to wait 20 minutes to get into the parking lot so we missed most of the cocktail hour. The bride and groom were stuck in the drive way entrance to the hall longer than we were. The head of the parking staff was nasty when we complained. Very few guest tipped them.
The service was so slow that we did not recieve our meals till 10:15 pm for a 6:00 reception. The guests at my table were annoyed at how slow the food service was so they didn't eat their dinner because it was so late. They were serving desert while some people had just received meals.
The so called "Handicap bathroom" had no grab-bars or usable sink.
I felt bad for the bride and groom because I am sure they paid a lot of money for the wedding and the service was way too slow. We didn't want to upset the couple so we are stating our feelings here.

It must have been a bad night. Judging by all the excellent reviews SGM is a reputable place. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to attend another affair there so you can get a better feel for the place.
