Red Wolfe Inn

We had a party of 10 with reserv at 6:30pm, we didn"t see any bread or appys for at least 1 hour. Appetizers were served over a period of 30 mins, 2 of 3 soups were served right away, the other person had to wait another 20 mins, Appetizers which were all ordered at the same time came out independent of each other, some people being finished before others were even served. Then came salad, half of the group had some sort of gritty sand in the salad. Waitress never checked to see how we were doing,..so sending back was not an option. Then came the steaks. Several were ordered with toppings(mushroom, seafood toppings) the steaks were done when the toppings were brought to the table. Waitress kept blaming the cook and apologizing. As she was apologizing her pen flung out of her hand hitting me in the forehead (left blood blister!). She then suggested I wear glasses next time! Imagine! There will be no next time.

Great food. The service was excellent. Looks a little scary from the outside but don't be deceived the steaks were fantastic. Make reservations because this place gets crowded and you will see the dining room is small and cozy. I recommend trying this place if you are looking for a good strip steak.

No better place in northern NJ for strip steaks: Really, this is a diamond in the rough type of place that once you visit, you "get it". I've always heard about the steaks, and the bottom line is that most people who cringe at the mention of the red wolfe are really focusing in on its exterior (which doesn't look all that great). The inside is better, but the ambiance of the place is not really the focal point. It's clean, and that's probably all that really matters. It's not dingy, but it's not superb either. Like I said, all that doesn't really matter.

The strip steaks that we had were perfect. They're obviously fresh, the meat is simply hand cut and cooked, there isn't any fanfare.... and there shouldn't be. They have excellent homemade steak sauce, the steaks come with a potato of some variety (mashed, baked, sweet, fries) and you get a ho-hum salad that's tasty but nothing to write home about.

I don't know anything else about the other stuff on the menu, and I don't think that I ever will, because I'll always be ordering a NY Strip.
