Grandaughter had deep fried shimp without breading and shrimp was like eating rubber bands.
I had soft shell crabs that tasted like thin cooked shrimp shells.No crabmeat flavor what-so-ever, all thin shell and sharp no flavor.
Stuffed flounder was dry and chewy.
Cole slaw was brought out and set on table a 1/2 hour before the meal came to the table.
Got there when they first opened and they did not have the first two things I had ordered off the menu, that was disappointing.
Calamari appetizer was so little for the price.
It was just a terrible eating experience there and I definitely would not go back or recommend them to anyone.
I honestly never complain but it was that bad and disappointing.
Hopefully they improve somewhere in the future so others don't experience what I did.
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsFred's is great. I have been going there for more than 10 years and I have never had a bad meal, a long wait, or bad service. I think the wait staff is friendly and efficient. When in season, you cannot beat the softshell crabs - fried or sauteed - just exquisite. Their chowders and bisques are fabulous and the sesame crusted tuna steak, another favorite, is superb. They always have a wonderfully creative special menu and the portions are ample and I think the prices are more reasonable than other seafood places. I really love their fresh salsa verde - its not on the menu but ask for a side of it if you love hot and spicy.

Poor service/High prices: Fred's Seafood restaurant is contiguous with their fish market, as you walk by the fish counter to get to the restaurant hostess. The place needs refurbishing and the ugly commercial ceiling tiles are very noticeable. For this atmosphere you would expect low prices and good fish. The prices are high. I don't know about the food, because they took 45 minutes to seat us; 30 minutes more to take our orders and after 60 more minutes and no food and no sign of our waitress, we got up and left. I've never done that before and I won't go back.

I must strongly disagree with this review. My family and I have been going to Fred's for at least 10 years. We have never had a bad meal or bad service here. The food is top quality and prepared to perfection. The servers are great, always friendly and efficient. Granted..if you go on a weekend you may have to wait for a table, but quite frankly, if I went to any restaurant on a weekend and didn't have to wait for a table, I would think there was something wrong with the restaurant. I have recommended Fred's to many family and friends over the years and all have raved about the food. The portions are so big you can barely finish your meal. My family and I eat here at least twice a month, sometimes more often and we have always been extremely pleased, never disappointed...ever. I can't imagine what happened with rahfamily5, that has never been my experience or my friend's experiences. This restaurant is truly a gem. If you like fish...this is DEFINITELY your place without a doubt.
