Eclectic, but service is spotty: I liked this place more than anyone else in my family. My husband and I thought is was unique, but my kids did not care for it. I'll admit my kids would have prefered chicken fingers, but they settled for buttered noodles and chicken. For the cost, it wasn't worth it to bring them here.
Special place in Newton: My wife and I recently went to Bula's in Newton and had an enjoyable experience. We arrived around 7 on a friday night. We were seated in a nice location towards the front of the establishment. WE found the bread to be ok, but were inpressed by the spreads instead of butter. They offered a cream cheese spread and a garbonzo bean spread which we thought were quite good. My wife had salad and I had soup which was only OK. My wife had the shrinp cakes and I had had the buffalo shrimp as appetizers which we both thought we extraordinary.Same with the entrees. We had the grupo and the scallops which were exceptional. For desert we shared a peanut cake that was out of this world. Overall we were very pleased and impressed by the food. We entire expereince was about three hours and we never felt like we were being rushed. Around eight or so the jazz band began to play we added to the experience. We strongly recommend Bula's FYI it is a BYOB.
wow.......sussex county?: Had dinner with my wife last night here. Fabulous place, hard to believe this is Sussex County!! Having lived in Manhattan for many a year, what a treat to find such a gem. I had the opportunity to speak with the chef ( who also happens to be the owner) and found him to be clever, brilliant, and very endearing. The food rated with some of the best in Manhattan, we had the tolu ika (?) which was their "fish of the day", a yellowfin with an orange tea broth and a crawfish risotto..out of this world. My wife had the jerked pork with a tropical salsa and a guacamole puree.....superb!! We loved the fact that it was byob, we enjoyed a bottle of pinot noir with our meal ( vineyard slips my mind right now). Jazz was outrageous, atmosphere matched...this place really should be in downtown manhattan...but by the number of people, it looks as though Newton has found its gem. Two thumbs up!!!
