Not bad: Overall very good experience. They beat the quotes I brought them, could have done a bit better on the trade in. Still, reasonable doc fees, transferred my plates instead of charging $350 like other dealers tried. Service is good too (according to my relatives who have been going there for years)
Awful experience - Still not over: My wife and I were in an accident and our car was totaled, so we were in the market for something new and wanted a Nissan Murano. Hilltop was the most conveniently located dealer so we went to take a look. The sales guy was nice enough, but very inexperienced. We liked the vehicle after the test drive and thought we were getting a good rate on the lease. We couldn't take deliery right away, as we needed a confirmation of total loss from the insurance company, but we wanted it so we put a $400 (fully refundable) deposit to hold the car and rate thru the end of July. We told them we'd be in touch to finalize as soon as we knew what was going on with insurance, but made it clear that it would probably take a week or 2. They called us 4 times over the next 5 days to "check in." I mentioned the rate to a friend who was also looking for a Murano and he said we could do a lot better. Being that I was semi laid-up given my injuries from the accident, I made some calls to other local dealers, one of which quoted me a rate that would have saved us about $2500 over the 39-month term of the lease. I mentioned this to my sales guy at Hilltop who said they wanted our business and he'd see what he could do as far as getting a better rate. 3 days later, he called and asked us to come in one evening. We went, only to be told that he was gone, first being told he had to go to staples to get new ink for his pen, and then finding out he had a family emergency and wouldn't be back - keep in mind I've got an injured knee, so getting around isn't easy to begin with. The manager, with whom we had spoken several times, and who allegedly approved a "competitive" rate, pawned us off on another staffer who wanted to show us vehicles (apparently he missed the part about how we already had a deposit in.) After re-hashing the entire story for him, he basically told me I was lying about the better price. When I told him I had done a lot of research, he questioned my free time and when I said I had been out of work for 3 weeks, he had the gall to ask how we would afford the car without a cosigner. He went to his manager and came back with a "tonight only" offer that was about $3 a month less than their original - far from competitive. They were about 2 hours from closing and I said I'd call him with an answer - he asked why I needed to think about it. My wife immediately got up and walked out, with me limping behind. I called our sales guy the next morning to give him one last chance and was told he was out on a test drive. We waited 3 hours for a return call, and when we didn't get it, left the house and came home in a new Murano from another dealer. I called back again the next day and asked for my deposit back, which he said he would do once he got approval from the manager. It's now been 5 days and I still haven't gotten the credit or a call letting me know the status of my refund. He apologized profusely for the behavior of his colleague, but it's too little too late - I plan to call my credit card company tomorrow if I haven't heard from them before then. This whole ordeal has given me somewhat of a bad taste for car dealers in general - there were a few other horrible dealings with other companies, but in the end, these guys really took the cake...they were hounding and harassing when trying to close the sale, inattentive when they had a chance to save the sale and now totally ignoring me after they lost the sale but owe me money - Maybe even worse, when the dealer we ended up leasing from gave me a copy of my credit report, I saw that the folks at Hilltop ran a credit check WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION.
