My yellow lab was taken there for excessive chewing which they detemined to be allergies. After the steriod shots and Benadryl, there was no improvement. They suggested an allergy test called a "Spot Test" which determines allergies from a blood test. That is followed up by a 9 month series of shots to boost his immunity against the allergans. It cost me an excess of $500, and he is worse off than before. When I asked them about it, their response was, "Sometimes, the allergy shots don't work". Funny they did not say that before I paid for it.
Last year, my same yellow lab had a limp. They said xrays revealed a torn ACL and hip dysplasia in both hips. They suggested surgery for the ACL ($1,800) and hip replacement ($3,500 each hip) for a total of $8,800. I googled, and on advice from the breeder, gave my dog fish oil pills and Osteo-Byflex Glucosamine and Chondroitin tablets. Today, he walks normal, plays, without any limp, all without $8,800 of surgeries.
Then there is our cat. A 19 year old Tabby. 5 years ago, he was diagnosed with a thyroid problem. He was put on Methimazole. This required about blood test per year, and would be given a prescription of 3 refills, which would last about 1 year. Last week, they did the blood test and only offered 1 refill. They said it was because the rules had changed, and he had to be given a blood test more frequently, now 4 times per year, and $50 per test. To add insult to injury, I asked why I was only given 1 refill. They said I would have to wait for the doctor to explain the above increased testing. After 2 1/2 hours (got there at 11:30am, left at 2pm)the doctor was made available to explain the 1 refill only policy. It took him exactly 30 seconds to explain, yet he kept me there 2 1/2 hours to do so. Disgusting.
Lastly, they are undergoing a major expansion, that appears to at least triple their facility size. It appears to have cost quite a bit to do this, which explains alot.
Stay away.
I took my cat ther for a breathing concern and he gave her a $500.00 enema. Turns out she has asthma and a heart defect.
Dr Magazu is fabulous!!! I would never see another vet but him. My dog has had so many health issues and he's been great with him from day one!
