My husband, me, my sister and my daughter visited the Wagging Tail on our trip to Cape May, NJ. It is a great store with a friendly and helpful staff. I wish we had a store like this one in Santa Clarita, CA. We bought several items for our dogs and they all fit and looked so precious in them. The cost was very reasonable and not expensive. The owner is wonderful and rescues animals. I wish we lived closer so I could shop at this pet store all the time. It is a Great Store!
This pet store is individually owned, and the workers are nice. However, there are a few significant reasons why I do not shop here and would not recommend it to others:
1) The owner purposely does not price many of the items in the store. For example, let's say I want to buy a few cans of dog food. There is no price, so I have to bring the cans up front to find out the price. If the price is too high, I have to go all the way back and repeat the process with another can. I mentioned this to the workers, and they sympathized but said that this is the way the owner wants it. It seems like a sneaky way to get people up to the register to buy products. It's a big inconvenience for the customer, but the owner doesn't care.
2) They have a minimum-purchase requirement for credit card use. That's against the policy of the credit cards, and when I mentioned this, the cashier said she knew but that's the way the owner wants it. I wish I could find the information to report this to VISA. She's not following the rules.
3) Some of her food is WAY overpriced.
So, if I'm desperate, I go to this store, but normally, I skip it and order online.
Edited 7/27/10: I've changed my mind about this store. Although unfortunately the credit card policy is still in place, they've changed the policy concerning pricing food. Also, I admire the fact that the owner takes in stray animals. Just for that latter reason alone, I've started shopping there again.
first of all, she does have prices marked on her foods, you just have to look for it. It is not regular like w/ dollar and cent marks, but they are there. Second, many small businesses have a limit on credit card use - this is allowed because they have to pay a certain amount for you to use it at their store. I suggest you try and actually learn what you are talking about instead of bashing a privately owned business. You should be ashamed of yourself! The lady who rings up people is friendly and kind and very helpful, and I believe that you do a great dishonor to her and you should learn to do homework before giving your opinion on something you obviously do not know.
I live in a small town in South Jersey and like to shop at privately owned small town stores. I spent a few days at The Blue Fish Inn in Cape May (which is pet friendly) with my girlfriend and dog. The manager at the Blue Fish highly recommended Wagging Tail Pet Center to us, so we went and tried it and the people there were very friendly and knowledgable about everything in the store, and they had alot of stuff I have not seen at any other pet store. The owner recommended these frozen beef bone things she had in the freezer. I bought 2 and brought them back to our hotel room and gave one to my dog and he absolutely loves it. It is about a month and a half later and my dog is still on the first one. the second one is still int he freezer.
I wish I lived closer to Cape May because if I did I would not shop at any other pet store in the area.
