The restaurant at the Peter Shields Inn is lovely. The food is okay---some dishes are very good (e.g., Lobster Crab Cake, seafood pot pie, etc.) while others are mediocre. During the summer, request the porch: You'll have a terrific view of the ocean. Also, I like the fact that this restaurant seems to have a standard of dress; other supposedly "fine dining" restaurants in Cape May will allow jeans and shorts. The only area that the Peter Shields Inn needs work on is the service. One waitress, Harriet, is very nice, but the rest of the crew is often unsmiling. Some of them tend to rush patrons, so it's not a bad idea to instruct your server to wait a while between courses (otherwise, you may be out of there in an hour). Finally, this is a BYOB, so that's good, but beware of the other beverage charges. An espresso is an astounding $4 for a single cup. That's more than many restaurants I've been to in A.C.
