Completely average and very over priced, IMO...even for Cape May. An appetizer of Buffalo Wings for $10? French Onion soup for $6? $20 for Sirloin steak? At these prices, the food should be at least above average, and it isn't. Also, unless you're a seafood fan (neither of us are), the menu is very limited, with only a couple chicken, beef, or pork items on the menu, unless you count the $11 grilled chicken breast sandwich or the $12 Nachos. You get the idea lol...
We have been going to the pilot house for years and have never been disappointed.
The food is great and the menu is perfectly designed to accommodate each family members different tastes. My favorite is the hot seafood pasta...it is oh so good. and the burgers well they would be as my kids say " awesome" and so different not your plain run of the mill burger.
The staff is wonderful... always pleasant, always professional and you see the same staff year after year(unlike most resort places that have new staff every week and you always have someone who is telling you I'm sorry I'm new). They know how to make you feel welcome and feel like you are their only customer.
The atmosphere cant be beat, far better than the other local restaurants its open and airy, well lit , and kids will love the enormous fish tanks.
If you are looking for a great place to go while down at the shore you should definitely go to the pilot house.
Where the Locals Are: The Pilot House is popular for three reasons: it's one of the only Cape May restaurants open year round & all day; the food (especially the French onion soup and their hamburgers) is great; and they have a fabulous Happy Hour every day.
Fun, nautical decor and a friendly staff round it out.
It's where you'll find the locals all winter long.
